Want to kick-start your career in recreation and help bring the community together? Apply for the exciting position of Pickleball & Tennis Program Instructor!
While this role focuses on introductory racquet sports, it carries the same high-energy, "summer camp" spirit we love. We are seeking energetic, enthusiastic individuals to facilitate fun, engaging, and safe activities for youth ages 8-12 in the High Park area (Bloor and Runnymede).
About the Program
This evening program is designed to provide a safe and positive recreational environment with a summer camp vibe. Activities will include a blend of classic camp games and team-building exercises, with a primary focus on introductory pickleball and tennis.
The program is geared towards giving children a chance to be active, socialize, and learn basic rules and skills in a fun and friendly setting. No advanced sports certification (e.g., NCCP Tennis or Pickleball) is required—we value your ability to coach with "camp counselor" energy and keep kids moving!
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Program Leadership: Lead and facilitate a variety of recreational activities. While the focus is on the court, you’ll also lead group games and introductory sports (e.g., simplified pickleball, balloon volleyball, frisbee).
- Activity Planning: Organize and execute daily and weekly lesson plans that translate sports skills into fun, camp-style challenges suitable for the 8-12 age group.
- Supervision & Safety: Ensure the active supervision of all children, maintaining a safe, respectful, and high-energy environment at all times.
- Equipment & Facility: Assist with the setup, cleanup, and basic safety checks of program equipment (e.g., nets, balls, racquets).
- Communication: Act as a "Camp Lead" for parents and participants, maintaining positive relationships and providing updates on progress.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience: Prior experience working with children (ages 8-12) in a camp, recreational, or school setting is required.
- Knowledge: Demonstrable enthusiasm for leading group activities. Basic knowledge of pickleball/tennis rules is an asset, but we are happy to train the right "camp-minded" candidate!
- Certification: A valid Level 1 First Aid certification (e.g., Standard First Aid) is required.
- Availability: Must be available for weekday evening shifts.
- Police Record Check: Due to the nature of working with children, a Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is a mandatory requirement for this position.
