Job Description Summary

The Fleet Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the company's transportation fleet. This role oversees fleet maintenance, dispatch operations, driver performance, and regulatory compliance while ensuring on-time delivery and high customer service standards. The position plays a critical role in optimizing logistics performance, controlling costs, and maintaining a strong safety culture.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

Fleet Management & Maintenance

Oversee the condition, availability, and performance of all trucks and trailers
Schedule and track preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs
Coordinate emergency breakdown support and towing services
Manage relationships with maintenance contractors and service vendors
Monitor fuel truck service schedules and fleet utilization
Ensure all vehicles meet regulatory, safety, and compliance standards
Maintain accurate fleet records including service logs, inspections, and registrations

Logistics & Dispatch Coordination

Plan and assign daily delivery routes to maximize efficiency and service levels
Coordinate dispatch schedules for deliveries and pickups based on production and customer demand
Track shipments and ensure on-time delivery performance
Adjust routes in real time to address delays, traffic, or operational disruptions
Collaborate closely with warehouse, production, and customer service teams

Driver Supervision & Performance Management

Supervise, schedule, and support drivers to meet operational requirements
Conduct driver training on safety, compliance, and company procedures
Monitor driver performance, attendance, and productivity
Enforce company policies, safety standards, and driving regulations
Lead incident investigations including accidents, delays, and violations

Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards
Enforce all company safety policies and procedures without exception.
Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, and inspections
Maintain driver logs, ELD compliance, and inspection documentation
Investigate accidents and implement corrective and preventive actions
Promote and reinforce a strong, proactive safety culture
Immediately report and investigate incidents.

Delivery Execution & Customer Service

Ensure accurate and timely delivery of goods
Resolve delivery issues, damages, and customer concerns
Coordinate special deliveries, urgent shipments, and returns
Maintain high service levels through clear communication with customers and internal teams

Cost Control & Reporting

Monitor and manage transportation costs including fuel, maintenance, and overtime
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste
Prepare daily and weekly reports on fleet performance and KPIs
Track and analyze key metrics to drive continuous improvement

Administrative & Operational Support

Support audits and compliance requirements.
Maintain supplies for drivers (safety supplies, truck fluids, etc.).
Participate in Lean initiatives and standardization efforts.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support plant operations.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

On-time delivery performance
Fleet availability and downtime
Maintenance compliance rate
Fuel efficiency and cost per mile
Safety incidents and accident rate
Driver productivity and attendance

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
3+ years experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet supervision
Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance and trucking operations
Understanding of DOT regulations and safety compliance requirements
Proficiency in dispatch, logistics, and reporting systems
Previous leadership or team lead experience
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Reliable attendance and schedule adherence

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in metals or industrial manufacturing environment
Familiarity with fleet systems (e.g., BigRoad, Fleet complete)
First Aid / CPR certification

Hiring Range: $28-$40 hourly, overtime eligible,bonus: gain & profit share; benefits after 3 months
