Position overview:
Role: Full-Time, Permanent – Traffic Control Person
Reports to: Site Supervisor, and 369 Secure Management
Location: Richmond hill
Schedule: Monday to Friday from 06:45 – 16:00
Rate range: $20
Qualifications
- Must hold a valid Ontario Security Guard License.
- Must hold a valid Ontario Traffic Control/Flagger certification.
- Must hold a valid CPR/First Aid level C certification (WSIB approved).
- A minimum construction work experience of 1 year is required.
- Must be able to work at any time including weekends.
- Must be able to legally work in Canada.
- Ability to maintain objectivity and professionalism.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and situational awareness.
- Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to work efficiently within a team.
- Must obtain the following certifications: Working at heights/Fall protection, Health & Safety Awareness in 4 Steps.
- Ability to follow post orders and emergency procedures.
- Ability to stand for a long period of time.
- Must be able to work outdoors in different weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Direct and control vehicle and pedestrian traffic around construction zones, road work areas, or accident sites using stop/slow signs, hand signals, and communication devices.
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control equipment, such as cones, barricades, signage, and barriers, according to safety standards.
- Ensure the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians by maintaining an organized and controlled flow of traffic.
- Monitor traffic patterns and adjust controls as needed to prevent congestion or accidents.
- Communicate clearly with workers, equipment operators, and other traffic control team members using radios or hand signals.
- Identify and report hazards, unsafe behavior, or issues on the site to supervisors.
- Provide guidance and assistance to the public, including giving detour or route information.
- Maintain a high level of alertness and situational awareness at all times.
- Follow all provincial and local traffic control regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Respond quickly in emergency situations, such as collisions, injured workers, or unexpected hazards.
- Monitor contractor and visitor access where required, ensuring that only authorized individuals enter restricted zones.
- Maintain clear communication with site supervisors, project managers, and security management regarding incidents or concerns on-site.
- Assist in emergency procedures, including evacuations or first-aid responses if trained and required.
- Ensure all safety and security policies are followed at all times.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to outdoor weather, construction noise, and active work zones.
- Standing for prolonged period of time.
- May require working nights, weekends.
