POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Retail Manager to join our team. The Retail Manager is responsible for managing and driving significant growth of our retail program – including the strategic and day-to-day management of two on-property golf retail outlets, RBC Canadian Open, corporate and event ordering, establishing and overseeing an e-commerce programme and more. This role has a strong focus on retail inventory management, inventory controls, and sell-through performance, while delivering an exceptional Guest retail experience aligned with the resort’s brand.
The successful candidate will oversee buying, receiving, pricing, merchandising, staffing, and financial performance of both retail locations, ensuring optimal inventory levels, strong margins, and disciplined controls, while collaborating with other teams such as sales, events and marketing to deliver on our Common Purpose.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Buying Strategy and Brand Elevation
- Develop and execute innovative merchandising and buying strategies tailored to seasonal golf trends, customer demographics, and emerging apparel styles, resulting in a refreshed and differentiated product assortment.
- Identify and source new golf and lifestyle brands, balancing performance wear with modern, fashion-forward pieces to elevate the shop’s overall product mix and appeal.
- Collaborate with vendors to curate exclusive or limited-run items, enhancing Osprey’s uniqueness.
- Lead visual merchandising initiatives to modernize in-store presentation, creating cohesive, on brand displays that improve the perceived style, quality, and desirability of merchandise.
- Analyze sales data and customer feedback to continuously refine buying decisions, ensuring alignment with evolving trends while maximizing sell-through and minimizing excess inventory.
- Introduce creative product storytelling and styling concepts (e.g., outfit pairings, themed collections) to enhance the customer experience and reinforce a premium, lifestyle-driven retail image.
- Support resort events, tournaments, and promotions with tailored retail assortments and displays
Retail Operations & Multi-Outlet Management
- Manage day-to-day operations of two distinct retail outlets, ensuring consistency in standards, controls, and Guest service
- Ensure accurate POS setup, SKU management, pricing, and reporting
- Coordinate inter-store transfers and assortments to maximize sell-through across both locations
- Maintain clean, organized, and visually compelling retail environments
- Work with Director of Golf Instruction to drive club and equipment sales.
- Work with the Sales team to support corporate partners and facilitate corporate orders for events, including providing product options, corporate catalogue, ordering, managing returns, receiving and inventory of orders.
Inventory Management & Controls
- Own the end-to-end inventory lifecycle for both retail outlets, including forecasting, buying, receiving, pricing, transfers, markdowns, and end-of-season clearance.
- Analyze sell-through rates, turn, gross margin, and open-to-buy to drive purchasing decisions.
- Establish seasonal buy plans aligned with resort demand, golfer demographics, and event calendars, including staff uniforms and the RBC Canadian Open.
- Monitor vendor performance, terms, dating, and return opportunities.
- Implement markdown and promotional strategies to improve sell-through while protecting margin.
- Develop and maintain inventory control procedures to minimize shrink, overstock, and aged inventory.
- Ensure accurate inventory counts through regular cycle counts and annual physical inventories.
E-Commerce
- Establish and oversee a robust e-commerce program as an added sales channel.
Team Leadership & Training
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise retail associates for both outlets.
- Train and engage staff on product knowledge, selling skills, inventory control procedures. Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and Guest-focused quality service.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and recognition.
Financial Reporting & Administration
- Prepare and review retail sales, inventory, margin, and shrink reports.
- Track performance against budget and key retail KPIs.
- Work closely with the Director of Golf / management team on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with resort policies, health & safety standards, and Ontario employment regulations.
Qualifications:
- 3-5+ years of retail management experience, sports and leisure retail experience is preferred
- Demonstrated strength in inventory management, inventory controls, and sell-through optimization
- Experience managing multiple retail locations or high-volume retail environments
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales and inventory data
- Proficiency with POS and inventory management systems
- Proven leadership and team development skills
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management abilities
