This is not a conventional stage-manager role
Maan Farms is looking for the person who can take four original outdoor Halloween show concepts and turn them into a complete, repeatable live-entertainment program.
This seat combines live-show producing, performance direction, casting and rehearsal leadership, and command of the nightly multi-stage operation. You will help shape scripts, find and coach strong performers, build memorable characters, and make the shows work reliably in front of thousands of guests.
Maan Farms is a third-generation farm and agritourism destination in Abbotsford. Halloween Fright Festival combines haunted attractions, theatrical shows, roaming characters, food and immersive environments across a busy outdoor event site.
What you will own
- Take four approved show concepts from development through opening night and the full seasonal run.
- Strengthen scripts, pacing, character arcs and audience interaction while protecting the owner’s creative direction.
- Lead casting, auditions, role assignments, understudy coverage and performer standards.
- Direct rehearsals, blocking, character work, vocal delivery and repeated performance notes.
- Build the nightly show loop across multiple outdoor stages, including performer travel, costume changes and reset time.
- Partner with the stage-management and technical teams on audio, lighting, fog, microphones, props, costumes and weather contingencies.
- Maintain performance quality throughout a repetitive seasonal run and make calm decisions when actors, crowds, weather and technology collide.
- Leave Maan Farms with current scripts, show files, character notes, schedules and a production system another qualified person can run.
What success looks like
By opening night, all four shows are compelling, fully cast, rehearsed, technically integrated and repeatable. Actors understand their characters rather than simply reciting lines. Understudies are ready. Show timing works across the property. The performance program feels cohesive, alive and worthy of a destination Halloween event.
During the run, you keep the creative standard high without requiring the owner to solve routine casting, rehearsal or nightly production problems.
You may be a strong fit if you have
- Personally carried a theatrical, immersive, festival, attraction or touring production from unfinished concept into live operation.
- Strong instincts for casting, actor direction, character development and audience energy.
- Experience leading rehearsals and coordinating several shows, stages or performance tracks.
- Enough technical-production fluency to collaborate effectively on audio, lighting, microphones, fog and cueing.
- A network in theatre, live entertainment, immersive performance or adjacent creative communities.
- Calm judgment, direct communication and the ability to update your plan when evidence or creative direction changes.
- Reliable transportation to Abbotsford and strong evening/weekend availability through Halloween.
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
Haunt experience is welcome but not required. Theatre directors, live-show producers, immersive-entertainment creators, festival producers, performance directors, resident directors and senior stage managers with real creative-production ownership are encouraged to apply.
The working environment
This is outdoor Halloween entertainment on a working farm. Expect rain, cold, loud audio, fog, crowds, masks and frequent movement between performance areas.
You will work with an Assistant Stage Manager, dedicated Live Event Technician, performers and Maan Farms operations. The owner sets the creative destination; you are trusted to build the practical route, raise the performance standard and speak plainly when something will not work.
How to apply
Apply through Indeed with:
1. Your resume.
2. Your availability through Halloween.
3. A short note about one production you personally helped take from concept or unfinished material into successful live operation, including what you directly owned.
No formal cover letter is required. Applications are reviewed as they arrive.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a paid 90-minute practical at Maan Farms. This is a working conversation, not a free trial shift, and lets both sides judge the fit.
Maan Farms welcomes applicants from different professional paths. If you need an accommodation during the hiring process, tell us what would help.
