About the Role
K’ómoks First Nation is seeking a caring, energetic, and community-focused Early Learning Child Care (ELCC) Program Assistant to support the delivery of culturally grounded early years programming for children ages 0–6 and their families.
Working closely with the Community Health Liaison, this role helps create welcoming, inclusive, and culturally safe spaces where children and families can connect, learn, and thrive. The successful candidate will support Parent/Tot programming, community events, cultural activities, and family wellness initiatives rooted in Indigenous values and child-centered practices.
What You’ll Do:
- Support the planning and delivery of Parent/Tot programming and family activities
- Organize and co-host monthly community events and family gatherings
- Assist with cultural programming alongside Knowledge Holders and Elders, including singing, drumming, beading, and dancing
- Support postpartum care groups and family wellness initiatives
- Coordinate and maintain a Parent/Tot social media page to share updates, resources, and events
- Help organize educational sessions for parents on topics such as parenting, nutrition, child development, and safety
- Assist with pool safety and swimming program coordination
- Support the assembly and distribution of Food Boxes and Birth Boxes for families
- Maintain a Lending Library for books, toys, clothing, bikes, and child equipment
- Coordinate Meal Trains for families welcoming new children
- Assist with purchasing, inventory, attendance tracking, and program logistics
- Provide feedback and ideas to continuously improve programming
What You Bring
- Experience working with young children and families in a community, educational, or family-support setting
- Background in Early Childhood Education, community health, or family support is considered an asset
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and social media skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Familiarity with Indigenous cultural practices and commitment to culturally safe programming
- Food Safe Level 1, WHMIS, and Infant/Child First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- Budgeting or program coordination experience is an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is considered an asset
- Clear Criminal Record Check, including vulnerable sector screening
