The Addictions Counsellor delivers programming and one-on-one counselling sessions with clients attending the Centre. This role supports clients through assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic intervention, and discharge planning using culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure continuity of care. This role may rotate between day shifts, and evening shifts.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Counselling & Culturally Grounded Care:
- Provide individual and group counselling for clients experiencing substance use and concurrent mental health concerns.
- Conduct intake, screening, and clinical assessments; develop and evaluate individualized treatment and recovery plans.
- Facilitate group programming focused on recovery, relapse prevention, coping skills, and emotional regulation.
- Integrate Indigenous cultural perspectives and teachings into counselling where appropriate and consented to.
- Apply trauma-informed, strength-based, and wholistic approaches; demonstrate awareness of historical and intergenerational trauma.
Crisis Response, Documentation & Collaboration:
- Respond to crisis situations using de-escalation and clinical judgement; collaborate with medical, cultural, and support staff.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records per Centre policies and privacy legislation.
- Participate in case conferences, care planning meetings, and multidisciplinary discussions; support discharge planning and aftercare referrals.
Key Requirements:
We recognize the value of diverse educational experiences including cultural, academic, work, and lived experience.
- Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Mental Health & Addictions, Psychology, or Sociology preferred; relevant diploma with substantial experience will be considered.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience with substance use challenges, mental health concerns, or concurrent disorders.
- Eligible for registration with a recognized regulatory body in BC (e.g., BCCSW, CPCA, or equivalent).
- Experience working with Indigenous clients and communities is a strong asset.
- Strong crisis intervention, de-escalation, and clinical documentation skills.
- Knowledge of harm reduction principles within a residential abstinence-based treatment environment.
- Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Due to the nature of this role working with individuals in early recovery, the successful candidate must demonstrate a sustained period of personal recovery and stability sufficient to safely and effectively perform the responsibilities of the position for a minimum of 3 years.
Pay: $54,883.00-$79,998.00 per year
