Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Painter. This role will be tasked with performing advanced painting tasks, ensuring high-quality finishes on a variety of commercial projects. expertise in surface preparation, application techniques, and the use of specialized tools and materials will be required. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate teamwork, precision, and a commitment to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping, and priming as needed to ensure a smooth and durable finish.
Paint Application: Apply paint, varnishes, stains, and other coatings using brushes, rollers, sprayers, and other advanced equipment to achieve professional results.
Specialized Techniques: Perform advanced techniques such as faux finishing, texturing, or application of specialty coatings (e.g., epoxy, fire-retardant paints).
Project Execution: Interpret blueprints, specifications, and work orders to execute projects accurately and meet client expectations.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean painting tools, equipment, and sprayers to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to workplace safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, and safe handling of hazardous materials.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, contractors, and other trades to ensure timely completion of projects while maintaining high standards.
Quality Control: Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and client specifications, addressing any deficiencies promptly.
Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior painters or apprentices as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a commercial painter, with demonstrated expertise at a Level 5 skill set (equivalent to Red Seal or journeyperson certification in Nova Scotia).
Certification: Red Seal Painter and Decorator certification or equivalent is highly preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in advanced painting techniques, including spray painting, industrial coatings, and decorative finishes. Familiarity with modern tools and equipment (e.g., airless sprayers, scaffolding).
Knowledge: Strong understanding of paint types, surface preparation methods, and safety standards (e.g., WHMIS, OHS regulations in Nova Scotia).
Physical Requirements: Ability to work at heights, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
Soft Skills: Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Licenses: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Access to a vehicle is an asset.
Availability: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, depending on project demands.

- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Ability to pass a background check if required for specific projects (e.g., government or institutional contracts).
- Familiarity with Halifax’s building codes and regulations is an asset.
