Full job description

A premier residential and civil excavation contractor is currently seeking an experienced, high-precision Excavator Operator to join our team.

In this role, you will lead full-cycle residential site development across Hamilton and the surrounding Golden Horseshoe—from initial roadcuts to the final grade. If you are an operator who works safely, communicates professionally with clients, and handles machinery with surgical accuracy, we want to hear from you.

Duties and Responsibilities:

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Cat Fleet Operation: Run and maintain a premium lineup of Caterpillar equipment including Cat 330, 329, 323, 325, and 315 excavators.
Support Equipment: Operate Cat Dozers, Cat Wheel Loaders, Cat 420 Backhoes, and Cat 259 Skid Steers as needed.
Basement Excavation: Dig residential basements, footings, walk-outs and sanitary trenches precisely to engineered specs.
Material Management: Stockpile structural fill on-site and load excess material into dump trucks efficiently.
Civil Upgrading site Services: Excavate municipal roadcuts for mainline water, sanitary sewer, and storm pipe installations.
Utility Trenching: Dig straight utility trenches from the property line connections straight to the house.
Inspections & Backfill: Backfill service trenches and foundations immediately following City Inspector approval.
Site Support & Access: Construct safe, stable access ramps for arriving concrete trucks and pump trucks.
Finish Grading: Operate Cat dozers or 259 skid steers to execute flawless final grading around residential homes.
Client Relations: work with site supervisors and homeowners on-site to confidently review and explain any excavation details.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proven Experience: Minimum 3–5 years operating heavy equipment on Ontario residential and civil job sites, specifically basement excavation and road cuts.
Caterpillar Proficiency: Direct, hands-on experience running the specific Cat excavator models listed above.
Multi-Machine Mastery: Proficient in switching between excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, and track loaders.
Technical Layout Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and explain surveyor information and stakes. Use of 2D laser systems on machines to excavate accurately.
Driver’s License: Must hold a valid Ontario Class G License with a clean driving record.
Safety First Mindset: Strictly follow Book 7 traffic control, trench safety, and Ontario One Call utility locates.
