Job Overview

As a Dog Jogger & Pet Care Professional, you will report directly to the Office Manager and Team Leads in your daily dog walking and pet care duties. In addition to dog walking and jogging, team members are responsible for feeding, socializing with, and caring for pets of all sizes and breeds. An ideal candidate will be motivated by the well-being of the pets in our care and possess strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
This is a part-time supplemental income position.
Job Responsibilities
- Caring for clients’ pets and homes.
- Walking, jogging, or providing yard time for pets.
- Caring for dogs, cats, and small animals during scheduled visits.
- Cleaning litter boxes, enclosures, and surrounding areas.
- Keeping clients’ homes clean of any garbage or messes related to visits.
- Bringing in packages or mail for clients when requested.
- Following all visit instructions and completing any agreed-upon pet care tasks during visits.
- Driving before, during, and after visits throughout the workday.
- Accessing clients’ homes through lockboxes, garage codes, keys, and other approved methods.
- Providing food and water to pets.
- Administering medications when required.
- Properly disposing of animal waste.
- Monitoring the health, safety, and behaviour of pets in our care.
- Providing detailed visit updates including photos and communicating professionally with clients and management.
Skills and Functions Necessary for This Job
- Ability to safely handle and control up to two dogs of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
- Ability to manage time effectively while balancing multiple visits throughout the day.
- Ability to communicate professionally with clients, management and Dog Jogs team members.
- Ability to problem-solve independently while working alone in the field.
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records relating to services provided, including visit details, scheduling updates, and mileage tracking.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules, weather conditions, and pet behaviour needs.
Job Requirements
- Must live in Edmonton or surrounding communities.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have consistent access to a reliable vehicle.
- Must have access to a reliable smartphone and be comfortable using apps throughout the workday.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be available a minimum of 3 weekdays per week and one weekend a month.
- Applicants should have consistent daytime availability between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Example availability windows may include 9:00 AM-2:00 PM, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM, or 11:00 AM-4:00 PM.
- Typical shifts are 4-5 hours long, though longer shifts of up to approximately 7 hours may occasionally be available based on client demand and staffing needs.
- While schedules can vary by day, applicants should understand that hours may fluctuate depending on client bookings and staffing needs.
- Must be comfortable working independently throughout the day.
- Must be physically capable of walking and jogging long distances in all weather conditions.
Physical Demands
- Physical stamina is essential. Team members may walk or jog several kilometres per day while managing dogs safely around vehicle traffic, pedestrians, wildlife, and other environmental distractions.
- You will spend a significant amount of time outdoors in varying weather conditions, including snow, rain, heat, and cold temperatures.
- While performing duties, you will regularly be required to walk, jog, reach with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, and bend.
- You may occasionally need to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- In emergency situations, you may be required to transport a pet in your personal vehicle to a veterinarian.
Please note: If driving between multiple visits throughout the workday does not sound appealing, this position will likely not be a good fit.

- This job can be physically demanding, with jogging and walking up to 20 km a day in all kinds of weather. How often do you currently run, walk, or do similar exercise?
- Are you comfortable caring for both large and small dogs, as well as cats of all breeds? Tell us a bit about your comfort level.
- Would you be comfortable working with a dog that may lunge and bark at distractions (dogs/other people/bikes etc) on a walk or jog?
- We require a criminal record check. Are you willing to get one? (We do not reimburse for it)
- Our insurance requires all staff to be 18 or older. Please confirm you are 18 or older.
- While we strive to keep our staff working closer to home, some days we need help in different areas we service. We service all of Edmonton, St.Albert, Sherwood Park, Ardrossan and Beaumont. Are you willing and able to drive to these areas when needed?

This role requires consistent weekday daytime availability. If your schedule changes often, this may not be the right fit.
