Summary
Rider Express is one of Canada's fastest-growing scheduled intercity motorcoach transportation providers, delivering safe, reliable, and professional passenger transportation services across Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Ontario, and beyond.
The Fleet Manager is a key member of the Operations Team and is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, compliance, and operational readiness of the Rider Express motorcoach fleet. This position ensures all vehicles are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance while maximizing fleet availability and minimizing operational disruptions.
The Fleet Manager will work closely with Operations, Drivers, Shop Personnel, and third-party vendors to ensure all fleet assets are maintained and available to support scheduled intercity operations.
This position requires strong leadership, mechanical aptitude, regulatory knowledge, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and fleet management.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day management, maintenance, and operational readiness of the Rider Express motorcoach fleet.
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs to maximize fleet reliability, safety, and vehicle uptime.
- Ensure compliance with National Safety Code (NSC), CVIP requirements, Alberta Transportation regulations, and interprovincial operating standards.
- Monitor fleet performance, vehicle utilization, maintenance costs, and lifecycle planning.
- Manage fleet records, inspections, registrations, insurance documentation, and regulatory compliance reporting.
- Lead maintenance personnel and coordinate with external repair facilities, vendors, and roadside service providers.
- Review vehicle defects, maintenance requirements, and diagnostic data to ensure timely corrective action.
- Coordinate fleet availability with Operations and Dispatch to support scheduled services.
- Manage roadside breakdowns, emergency repairs, and vehicle recovery activities.
- Develop and monitor fleet performance indicators including availability, compliance, maintenance effectiveness, breakdown frequency, and operating costs.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Provide regular fleet performance reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of fleet management experience within a transportation environment.
- Strong understanding of National Safety Code requirements.
- Knowledge of Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) requirements.
- Experience managing preventative maintenance programs.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fleet management software.
- Valid Class 1, 2 or 3 Driver's License with Air Brake (Q) Endorsement.
- Clean Driver's Abstract.
Preferred
- Experience managing motorcoach fleets.
- CVIP Inspection License
- Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician or Heavy Duty Mechanic certification.
- Experience with Prevost, and highway coach maintenance programs.
- Experience managing interprovincial transportation fleets.
- Knowledge of Motive, Geotab, or similar telematics platforms.
Pay: $90,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
