THE CHALLENGE
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, integration, and lifecycle support of complex power generation systems, including gas/diesel engines, turbines, fully packaged modular units. This role leads the development of reliable, efficient, and manufacturable solutions that meet customer, regulatory, and operational requirements.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead the design and development of power generation systems, including engines, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems
- Oversee full unit packaging design, including structural skids, enclosures, piping systems, and balance-of-plant components
- Develop PID’s, GA’s, 3D models, and engineering calculations to support design, fabrication and assembly
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications (ASME, ANSI, NFPA, API, ISO, CSA)
- Drive system integration across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines
- Design and review piping systems (fuel, lubrication, cooling, intake, exhaust) and associated components
- Perform and validate engineering calculations (thermal, structural, fluid systems, vibration)
- Lead design reviews, PHA, risk assessments, and failure mode analysis
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers
- Support manufacturing, assembly, and testing activities, resolving complex technical issues
- Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and performance
- Interface with vendors and suppliers to specify, review, and approve mechanical components and systems
- Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning, and field troubleshooting as required
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation including BOMs, specifications, and reports
- Drive continuous improvement in design, manufacturability, cost optimization, and quality
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Experience:
- 10+ years of relevant experience in power generation, rotating equipment, or heavy industrial systems
- Strong capabilities to review and authenticate drawings, calculations, reports as required
- Proven experience with engine and/or turbine-based power generation systems
- Demonstrated experience in unit packaging and system integration
- Experience working with industry codes and standards (ASME, API, ISO, CSA)
- Background in manufacturing, assembly support, and production environments
- Experience with testing, commissioning, and field support activities
- Familiarity with continuous improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma methodologies is an asset
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree considered an asset)
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta – APEGA or eligibility to apply from other provinces preferred
PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
- Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to X-Group safety policies and SOPs.
- PPE: Ability to wear required gear (steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection).
