Forensic Assessment & Community Services (FACS) has an exciting opportunity for an Addictions Counselor III. Reporting to the Care Manager of FACS, this position will act as a member of multidisciplinary teams that provide treatment services that are evidence and recovery based, aligned with best practice approaches, policy, legislation, and designated standards of practice within the context of an outpatient, forensic community mental health clinic. The Addictions Counselor III is responsible for the provision of specialized treatment addressing alcohol, drug and gambling concerns. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessment, case management, workshop development and facilitation, counselling in both group and individual formats. Position responsibilities also include collaboration with colleagues in order to provide input and participation in program development, research activities, and quality improvement endeavors. This position works closely and collaboratively with community stakeholders, offering consultative and educational services as needed, along with coordination and case management planning and follow-up. This will include but is not limited to clients with developmental delays, acute mental health issues, complex social needs. The client population is made up of individuals with sexual, intimate partner violence, and general offences.
As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Additional Required Qualifications:
BLS required. NVCI or immediate registration into the next available course is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with electronic medical records (Connect Care), virtual therapy platforms (Zoom), and comfort with Microsoft Office programs will all be considered assets. Understanding of intimate partner violence, family systems, inappropriate sexual behaviors, and legal dispositions will all be considered an asset.
