The Surveillance & Reporting team plays an important role in supporting cancer care across Alberta by leading cancer surveillance activities and providing reporting and analytics support to inform operational planning, service improvement, decision-making, and broader cancer control efforts. As part of a collaborative team of analysts, senior analysts, programmers, biostatisticians, and epidemiologists, you will contribute to meaningful work that supports evidence-informed decision-making and improved outcomes for cancer patients across Alberta. This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys owning analytics projects from inception to delivery. The successful candidate will independently work with stakeholders to gather business requirements, identify and access appropriate data sources, perform data extraction and analysis, design and develop Tableau dashboards, and present findings and reporting solutions that support operational and strategic decision-making.
Description:
Reporting to the manager of Surveillance & Reporting, the Analyst supports a range of reporting, analytic, and dashboard development activities related to cancer services and healthcare operations. The Analyst serves as a key member of the S&R team and is responsible for delivering end-to-end analytics solutions, with a strong focus on Tableau dashboard design, development, maintenance, and enhancement. The successful candidate will work with a variety of healthcare data sources, including the Alberta Cancer Registry, Electronic Medical Record databases and other administrative datasets, to support cancer surveillance, operational reporting, and stakeholder information needs. The analyst will identify appropriate analytical methodologies, determine suitable data sources, and provide clear interpretation and actionable recommendations. The analyst will collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, establish appropriate methodologies, and deliver high-quality reports and dashboards. Responsibilities also include conducting quality assurance and validation activities to ensure the accuracy and integrity of data extraction, analysis, reporting outputs, and dashboard functionality.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of post-secondary education in Epidemiology, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered. 1–3 years working in a healthcare data, health information systems, or healthcare analytics. Demonstrated experience independently designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing Tableau dashboards. Experience gathering business requirements and translating stakeholder needs into reporting and dashboard solutions. Experience extracting, transforming, and analyzing data using SQL or other data querying tools. Ability to integrate and work with multiple healthcare data sources. Proficiency with Tableau, Microsoft Excel, SQL, and other analytical tools. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to independently manage analytics and reporting projects from requirements gathering through implementation and presentation. Strong knowledge of data visualization principles and dashboard design best practices. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analytical findings in a clear and meaningful manner to technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with cancer care, oncology, or healthcare operations data. Experience developing enterprise-level Tableau dashboards and reporting solutions. Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large healthcare datasets. Experience applying data visualization and user-centered dashboard design principles to support decision-making.
