Camp Counsellor (Seasonal: July 4 – August 7, 2026)Job Summary
We are seeking energetic, responsible, and enthusiastic Camp Counsellors to support the delivery of a fun, safe, and engaging summer camp program. In this role, you will lead activities, supervise campers, support behavior management, and contribute to a positive and inclusive camp environment. You will work closely with fellow staff to ensure a well-organized and memorable experience for all participants.
Key Responsibilities
Program Planning & Implementation
- Collaborate with team members to plan and deliver weekly camp schedules
- Ensure a balanced mix of activities, including arts and crafts, games, nature exploration, and group activities
- Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and interests of campers
Activity Leadership
- Lead and facilitate small and large group activities in a safe and engaging manner
- Encourage participation, teamwork, and creativity among campers
- Create an inclusive and supportive environment for all participants
Camper Supervision & Behavior Management
- Supervise campers at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Address behavior issues using positive and constructive strategies
- Enforce camp rules while promoting respect and inclusion
Site Maintenance & Safety
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free camp environment
- Support daily setup and cleanup of activity areas
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures
Communication & Reporting
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding camper experiences and concerns
- Report incidents, concerns, or issues to Camp Leadership promptly
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Administrative Support & Record-Keeping
- Assist with daily attendance tracking, incident reports, and activity logs
- Support inventory tracking and submission of supply requests as needed
Team Collaboration & Participation
- Work collaboratively with fellow counsellors and leadership staff
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions
- Contribute to continuous program improvement
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children or youth (camp, childcare, after-school programs, or similar) preferred
- Strong leadership, organizational, and teamwork skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to manage and respond to camper behavior effectively
- Reliable, adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for working with children and creating positive experiences
Requirements:
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain before start date)
- Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector) may be required
Working Conditions
- Primarily outdoor work environment, with some indoor activities
- Must be comfortable working in various weather conditions
- Physically active role (standing, walking, leading activities)
- Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends
- Up to 30 hours per week during the program period
