We have an exciting opportunity for a Policy & Market Coordinator to join Alberta Grains and support advocacy, government relations, policy development, market initiatives, and stakeholder engagement activities that benefit Alberta's wheat and barley producers. Reporting to the Director, Government Relations, Policy and Markets, the Policy & Market Coordinator will provide research, project coordination, communications, and administrative support across a wide range of policy and market related priorities. This role offers exposure to government relations, public policy, advocacy campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and market development initiatives while working alongside an experienced and collaborative team.
The successful candidate will be an organized, detail-oriented professional with strong writing and communication skills, an interest in public policy and government processes, and a desire to grow their career within the agriculture, advocacy, and government relations sectors.

Alberta Grains is a not-for-profit, farmer-directed organization that represents the interests of and serves as the single voice for all of Alberta's wheat and barley producers. We collect mandatory but refundable check-offs and reinvest them to grow the grain industry and its profitability. RESPONSIBILITIES
Policy Research and Analysis
- Conduct research, environmental scans, and analysis on policy, regulatory, trade, transportation, sustainability, and market issues affecting Alberta grain producers.
- Monitor government announcements, legislation, regulatory developments, consultations, and emerging issues at the provincial and federal levels.
- Assist in identifying opportunities, risks, and trends relevant to the organization and its members.
- Maintain policy tracking systems and monitor progress on policy initiatives and action items.
Advocacy and Government Relations
- Assist in the development of briefing notes, policy papers, consultation submissions, position statements, presentations, correspondence, and advocacy materials.
- Support government relations activities, stakeholder engagement efforts, and advocacy initiatives.
- Coordinate stakeholder meetings, consultations, and related follow-up activities.
- Support advocacy campaigns, stakeholder outreach initiatives, and issues management activities.
- Support compliance with applicable lobbying registration and reporting requirements.
Project and Program Coordination
- Coordinate departmental projects, work plans, timelines, and deliverables.
- Support the implementation of strategic initiatives and organizational priorities.
- Track project progress and provide administrative and logistical support as required.
- Organize meetings, prepare agendas and meeting materials, record action items, and coordinate follow-up activities.
Communications and Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with the Communications team to support newsletters, website content, social media initiatives, and other communications activities related to policy, advocacy, and market development.
- Maintain stakeholder contact databases and records.
- Support relationship-building efforts with government, industry, and producer stakeholders.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of newsletters, member communications, advocacy updates, and stakeholder correspondence.
- Represent Alberta Grains at meetings, industry events, consultations, and stakeholder engagements as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in Public Policy, Political Science, Agriculture, Business, Communications, Economics, or a related field.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in policy, government relations, agriculture, stakeholder engagement, project coordination, communications, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to produce high-quality work independently.
- Strong research, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, project coordination, and time management abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of public policy development, government relations, legislative processes, advocacy, and market issues.
- Knowledge of or experience within the agriculture sector is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting communications initiatives, newsletters, stakeholder engagement activities, advocacy campaigns, or public affairs programs would be considered an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
