The Kikosewin Family Resource Network (FRN) is an Indigenous-led, community-based prevention and early intervention network operated by Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society. The Building Resilient Caregivers spoke — Parent Connections — delivers culturally grounded group programs that strengthen caregiver knowledge, skills, confidence, and resilience.
About the Role
The Family Wellness Facilitator plans and delivers universal drop-in activities and targeted group program cycles for caregivers of children ages 0–12. This role creates welcoming, non-judgmental spaces where caregivers can learn, connect, and build the skills and resilience they need to parent well under pressure.
BRC programs are not about fixing parents — they are about walking alongside them. The Family Wellness Facilitator holds space for the full complexity of caregivers' lives while delivering program content that is practical, culturally grounded, and genuinely useful. This role may be based at the Parkdale Hub, the Northeast Hub, or both, depending on organizational need.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate universal drop-in activities including cultural crafts, sharing circles, land-based activities, and community events
- Deliver targeted group program cycles for caregivers with identified risk factors or caregiving challenges
- Co-facilitate parallel programming with the ICD Child Development Facilitator during caregiver sessions (Parkdale Hub). Providing one-on-one voluntary intensive support, supporting child development and caregiver knowledge.
- Debrief with ICD facilitator after every parallel session
- Administer pre/post caregiver surveys and Protective Factors Surveys
- Maintain individual caregiver goal tracking records across program cycles
- Build and maintain relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural mentors who support programming
- At the Northeast Hub: develop and maintain partnership with the Multicultural Society of Edmonton and other community partners
- Complete session summaries, attendance logs, and cycle trackers
- Participate in regular supervision and reflective practice
Qualifications
Education:
- Diploma in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Community Development, or a related human services field is required
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and demonstrated facilitation experience will be considered
Experience:
- Experience facilitating group programs for caregivers or families in a community-based setting
- Experience working with Indigenous families using culturally grounded, trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches
- Experience with parenting programs, family support, or community education is an asset
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong group facilitation skills — able to hold sharing circles, facilitate peer learning, and manage complex group dynamics
- Knowledge of child development and responsive parenting approaches
- Understanding of the Protective Factors framework or similar strengths-based caregiver support models
- Knowledge of the impacts of intergenerational trauma and colonization on Indigenous families
- Ability to build genuine, non-judgmental relationships with caregivers navigating complex circumstances
- Cultural knowledge and connection to Indigenous communities, teachings, and practices is a significant asset
- The ability to lift, set up and move large items/structures needed for programing
Other Requirements:
- Criminal record check and vulnerable sector check required
- First Aid/CPR required or willingness to obtain

Salary
- Salary plus mileage for travel
- Paid sick and wellness days after 3 months’ probation (pro-rated)
- Extended Health Benefit (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months’ employment.
- Working approximately 34.5 hours per week
