Full job description

Acden Aves is an Indigenous environmental company providing a wide range of observation and technical services. Our clients operate an array of deterrents for the purposes of keeping birds and wildlife away from the tailings ponds and other process-affected water bodies around site.

We are currently seeking 60 Ton Limited Masters Boat Captains to join our team in the Athabasca oil sands, operating large workboats on tailings ponds.

SHIFT: 14 days on, 14 days off. 12-hour days. Day and night shifts.

Camp accommodations provided. Flights originate from Calgary or Edmonton.

Minimum Qualifications: 60-Ton Limited Masters, Valid Driver's License

Acden Aves operates two different types of vessels: Large workboats with open decks for on-pond work and smaller, faster boats for hazing of landed waterfowl.

Primary Responsibilities:

Operate large workboats for the purposes of:

Transportation of workers to the barges
Data collection by Acden Aves staff on the tailings pond
Boom collection and repositioning
Moving of barges with client help if required
Hazing landed waterfowl
Collection of mudlines and/or pond-bottom-soundings

Operation of smaller vessels for the purpose of:

Hazing of landed waterfowl
Data collection for Oil Sands Bird Contact Monitoring Program
Habitat delineation
Understand that your role may take you outside of these descriptions as the work evolves and grows

Physical Ability: Must be able to lift up 50 LBS
