Golden Arrow School Bus Ltd. is actively hiring Spare School Bus Drivers to support student transportation routes across Edmonton and surrounding communities.
If you hold a Class 5 Non-GDL Alberta Driver’s Licence, we provide FREE Class 2S training to help you become a licensed School Bus Driver.
Eligible candidates may also qualify for a $1,200 Government of Alberta training grant (conditions apply).

What is a Spare School Bus Driver?
A Spare Driver reports to the yard each weekday morning and afternoon.
You will:
- Cover school bus routes when regular drivers are absent
- Operate a school bus safely throughout Edmonton & area
- Assist with yard duties when not dispatched
- Receive daily pay for reporting — even if no route is assigned
This is a flexible Part-Time Commercial Driving position with consistent reporting pay.
School Bus Driver Responsibilities
- Safely transport students to and from school
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Follow Alberta traffic laws and safety regulations
- Maintain bus cleanliness and operational safety
- Navigate Edmonton and surrounding areas confidently
- Communicate professionally with students, parents, and school staff
School Bus Driver Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Non-GDL or Class 2S Alberta Driver’s Licence
- Minimum 1–2 years of Canadian driving experience
- Clean 10-Year Commercial Driver’s Abstract
- Strong knowledge of Edmonton roadways
- Ability to read maps and adjust routes as needed
- Fluent in English (written and verbal)
- Must pass Drug & Alcohol Screening
- Must pass Criminal Record Check
- Willingness to complete FREE Class 2 training (if applicable)
- Commitment to 6-month employment agreement after training
FREE Training Includes
- Classroom instruction
- Hands-on yard practice
- Safety modules and evaluations
- Final road assessment
No previous school bus driving experience required.
