Airworks Compressors Corp. is an Edmonton-based manufacturer of professional-grade air compressors and emerging mobile energy technologies. We build equipment for demanding industrial, commercial, fleet, and specialty applications, with a strong focus on reliability, serviceability, and greener technology.
Alongside our established compressor product lines, we are developing new products and sub-brands in electrification, hybrid power, and energy recovery. These technologies need strong visual identities—and compelling ways to show what they can do.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a versatile graphic designer with a strong interest in 3D product visualization.
A major part of this position will be creating realistic, polished 3D artwork that places our products in environments that would be difficult, expensive, or impossible to photograph. This could mean showing a compressor installed on a service truck, operating at a remote worksite, supporting an industrial application, or demonstrating an emerging technology that has not yet reached full production.
The role also covers the broader range of visual work required by a growing manufacturer: brochures, advertisements, data sheets, manuals, technical illustrations, trade-show materials, digital content, brand systems, and simple electrical or pneumatic schematics.
This is an excellent opportunity for a talented recent design graduate who wants meaningful creative ownership early in their career. We care far more about the quality of your portfolio, your design thinking, and your ability to learn than the number of years you have worked in the industry.
What You Will Do
3D Product Visualization
- Create realistic 3D renderings of Airworks products in industrial, commercial, fleet, and remote-work environments.
- Work with supplied CAD models, product references, photography, and technical information to develop accurate visual assets.
- Prepare models for visualization, including materials, textures, lighting, environments, camera composition, and final rendering.
- Produce product beauty shots, installation concepts, cutaways, application scenes, and other visuals for marketing and technical use.
- Develop reusable 3D assets and scene libraries that can be adapted across campaigns, product launches, and sub-brands.
- Assist with simple product animation or motion work where your skills and project requirements align.
Graphic Design and Brand Development
- Design sales brochures, advertisements, data sheets, specification sheets, social media content, web graphics, email assets, signage, trade-show materials, and internal communications.
- Help develop the visual identities of new products and emerging clean-energy sub-brands from the ground up.
- Apply established brand standards consistently while helping those standards evolve.
- Translate marketing direction into polished, production-ready creative work.
- Prepare files correctly for print, digital publishing, vendors, and internal use.
Manuals and Technical Communication
- Design and maintain operator manuals, service guides, installation instructions, checklists, and other technical documents.
- Turn supplied technical information into clear diagrams, callouts, icons, illustrations, and page layouts.
- Develop or refine simple electrical and pneumatic schematics using information provided and reviewed by technical staff.
- Work with engineering, production, service, and sales personnel to understand products and communicate them accurately.
- Maintain strong attention to detail, version control, consistency, and technical accuracy.
This is a visual communication role rather than an engineering position. Technical staff will supply and approve the underlying engineering information.
Photography and Video Support
- Work with our part-time in-house photographer and videographer to plan the visual assets required for campaigns and product launches.
- Develop creative briefs, reference boards, shot lists, required angles, scene requirements, and final deliverable lists.
- Help prepare products, locations, props, and personnel for scheduled shoots.
- Take day-to-day product, shop, staff, and company photos when the photographer is unavailable.
- Organize and maintain a usable library of photography, video, renderings, logos, templates, and other brand assets.
Everyday photography does not need to be a full studio production. We are looking for someone with a good eye who can reliably capture a clean, useful image when something worth documenting happens.
Project Ownership and Collaboration
- Report directly to the Marketing Manager, who will establish marketing priorities, messaging, and creative direction.
- Take projects from initial concept through review, revision, production, and final delivery.
- Ask the right questions and gather information from technical and non-technical team members.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines without losing track of details.
- Present ideas clearly, accept feedback professionally, and explain the reasoning behind design decisions.
- Help identify opportunities where a rendering, photograph, diagram, or other visual would communicate something more effectively.
What We Are Looking For
- A diploma or degree in graphic design, visual communication, digital media, 3D design, or a related field.
- A Bachelor of Design, such as MacEwan University’s Bachelor of Design, is preferred.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating excellent judgment in composition, typography, layout, hierarchy, colour, and visual storytelling.
- Demonstrated 3D modelling or visualization ability, particularly in materials, lighting, composition, and realistic product rendering.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
- Experience with at least one relevant 3D platform or rendering workflow, such as Blender, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, KeyShot, or comparable software.
- The curiosity and patience required to understand technical products and represent them accurately.
- Strong organization, file-management, and time-management habits.
- The ability to work collaboratively and communicate comfortably with marketing, sales, service, engineering, and production staff.
- The ability to work in person at our Edmonton facility during regular weekday hours.
Your portfolio does not need to feature air compressors or industrial equipment. Student projects, personal work, freelance assignments, and self-directed concepts are all welcome. We want to see how you think and what you are capable of creating.
Additional Skills That Would Be Valuable
These are assets, not strict requirements:
- Experience importing, cleaning, or preparing CAD and STEP models for rendering.
- Product animation, motion graphics, or video-editing experience.
- Photography and photo-editing experience.
- Technical illustration, information design, or diagram development.
- Experience designing long-form documents such as manuals or catalogues.
- Understanding of print production, prepress, and vendor coordination.
- An interest in industrial design, machinery, automotive applications, manufacturing, or green technology.
We do not expect an early-career applicant to arrive with every one of these skills. A strong foundation, an excellent portfolio, and the ability to learn matter most.
What We Offer
- Compensation of $27–$32 per hour, based primarily on portfolio strength and relevant capabilities.
- Permanent, full-time employment.
- Health benefits.
- A consistent Monday-to-Friday schedule.
- Casual dress.
- A friendly, practical, and collaborative workplace.
- Direct access to the products, people, and technical information behind the work.
- Support from an in-house photographer and videographer.
- The opportunity to help shape new products and brands at an early stage.
- Significant creative variety and the chance to see your work used in real products, manuals, campaigns, customer materials, and industry applications.
Who Will Thrive Here
This position is best suited to someone who is creative but practical, visually ambitious but attentive to accuracy, and comfortable moving between very different kinds of projects.
You may spend one day developing a high-end 3D product scene and the next laying out a service manual, designing an advertisement, refining a schematic, or photographing something happening on the shop floor. You should enjoy that variety and take pride in making complex products easier to understand.
You do not need years of agency or corporate experience. If you have recently graduated, have an outstanding portfolio, and want your first major design role to involve real creative responsibility and real-world problem solving, we would like to hear from you.
