Our Approach
Education in Canada is a success story. Study after study shows that our public schools are among the best in the world. But high overall quality masks deep inequality. Only 48 percent of First Nations youth living on reserve have a high school diploma. In the North, those numbers are even lower. And, too often, teachers arrive in northern First Nations without the preparation and support they need to succeed—and stay—in the classroom. The twin challenges of teacher supply and turnover compound historical injustice and systemic inequities to produce a statistical education gap between First Nations and non-First Nations communities.
Gakino'amaage: Teach For Canada is a non-profit organization that works with northern First Nations to recruit, prepare, and support committed teachers who will increase student outcomes in the North. This model has been defined by First Nations community partners, our Circle of Advisors, our Board of Directors, and experienced northern educators.

Your Responsibilities
The Finance Manager will report to the Finance Controller and support Gakino'amaage: Teach For Canada’s financial operations. Specific responsibilities include:
- Maintains the financial records of Gakino’amaage: Teach For Canada, including categorizing all transactions and performing entries for accounts payables, receivables, prepaid expenses, accruals, and petty cash
- Performs monthly bank accounts and visa reconciliations, ensuring missing receipts are identified and researched in a timely manner
- Monitors the expense management system, ensuring weekly credit card reports are uploaded, data is archived and finance policies and internal controls are followed
- Maintains cash flow template based on actual spending, and works with Finance Controller to ensure information is accurate and cash meets organizational needs
- Processes bi-weekly payroll in Quickbooks, with percentage allocations to departments and funding sources
- Prepares and organizes data for monthly financial statements and departmental expense reports reviews
- Supports the end-of-year and annual charitable audit activities by conducting account analysis and reconciliations, compiling audit schedules and preparing audit requests
- Support the financial planning and administration of organizational programs and events, including occasional in-person participation at initiatives such as the Summer Enrichment Program and Educational Assistant Learning Summit to support financial operations.
- Participates in the department's quarterly, annual planning and review processes to reach and advance the goals of the department and organization
- Demonstrates flexibility, creativity and problem-solving skills, actively participating in the implementation of special organizational projects as identified

The interview process will start with: 1-hour virtual interview with a task, in early September 2026. This position involves overseeing the organization's finances, and as such, the successful candidate will be required to apply for and obtain a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Police Check.

Pay: $55,977.00-$77,881.00 per year
