Line Cook & Culinary Display Specialist

Location: Guelph, Ontario
Company: Platters Catering & Events Inc.
Position: Full-time/Part-time, Hourly
Schedule: Flexible availability required, including evenings and weekends based on event needs

About Platters Catering & Events

Platters Catering & Events is a Guelph-based, off-site catering company serving weddings, corporate functions, social gatherings and community events throughout the region. We are known for high-quality food, professional service and thoughtfully presented culinary displays.

We are seeking a dependable and creative Line Cook & Culinary Display Specialist to support food preparation, service and the presentation of buffet, grazing and food-station displays.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will combine strong kitchen skills with an eye for presentation. This role is responsible for preparing menu items according to recipes and company standards, while also assisting with the design, setup and maintenance of attractive culinary displays at both our kitchen and off-site event locations.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen and Food Preparation

Prepare, cook and portion menu items according to recipes and event specifications.
Complete assigned prep lists accurately and within required timelines.
Maintain consistency in taste, portion size, quality and presentation.
Assist with plating, packaging and organizing food for off-site events.
Follow proper food-handling, allergen-control and sanitation procedures.
Label, date, rotate and store food products correctly.
Maintain a clean, organized and safe workstation.
Assist with receiving deliveries, inventory rotation and reducing food waste.
Communicate shortages, quality concerns and timing issues to the Chef or Sous Chef.

Culinary Displays and Event Presentation

Assist with the design and setup of buffets, grazing tables, dessert stations, appetizer displays and other food presentations.
Arrange food, serving pieces, risers, and decorative elements in a polished and visually balanced manner.
Ensure displays reflect the event style, menu and company presentation standards.
Transport, assemble and safely position display equipment at off-site venues.
Follow food-safety requirements related to temperature control, service timing and display duration.
Assist with dismantling displays, packing equipment and returning items to the kitchen after events.
Handle company décor, platters and display equipment carefully and report any damage or missing items.

Qualifications

Previous experience as a line cook, prep cook or catering cook is preferred.
Experience with buffet styling, grazing tables, food displays, event décor or visual merchandising is considered an asset.
Strong attention to detail and a natural eye for colour, balance and presentation.
Ability to follow recipes, production lists, diagrams and event instructions.
Knowledge of safe food-handling and sanitation practices.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen and event environment.
Strong organizational, time-management and communication skills.
Dependable, adaptable and willing to assist in different areas as required.
Proficiency in English
Strong Communication and ability to work as a team
Valid Food Handler Certification
Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation are considered assets.

Physical and Scheduling Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods and work in hot kitchen environments.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to safely load, unload and move food, equipment and display materials.
Availability for days, evenings, and weekends based on the event schedule.
Willingness to travel to off-site venues throughout Guelph and surrounding areas.
