ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Southeast Advocates Inc. is a non-profit organization based in Weyburn and Estevan, serving all of southeast Saskatchewan. We deliver a range of programs including Employment Services, Settlement, Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS), and Youth Transitions. Our mission is to empower individuals and newcomers to build successful, fulfilling lives in our communities.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Employment Consultant plays a critical role in supporting individuals facing barriers to employment. Working as part of a dedicated team, the Employment Consultant provides personalized, client-centred services that guide participants through every stage of their employment journey—from initial assessment through to sustained job placement. This position requires a compassionate, organized professional who is committed to making a tangible difference in people's lives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Assessment & Planning

Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' skills, experience, interests, and barriers to employment
Develop and maintain personalized Employment Action Plans (EAPs) tailored to each client's individual goals and circumstances
Identify skill gaps and connect clients with appropriate training opportunities, educational programs, or referrals

Job Search Support

Assist clients with all aspects of the job search process, including resume writing, cover letter preparation, and interview coaching
Support clients in developing job search strategies suited to local and regional labour market conditions
Facilitate workshops and group sessions on employment readiness topics as required

Employer & Community Engagement

Build and maintain relationships with local employers to identify job opportunities for clients
Advocate on behalf of clients with employers, community organizations, and service providers
Connect clients to community resources and wraparound support services that remove barriers to employment

Case Management & Reporting

Maintain accurate, up-to-date client files and case notes in accordance with program guidelines and confidentiality requirements
Monitor client progress regularly, providing ongoing coaching, encouragement, and problem-solving support
Prepare timely reports and complete required program documentation for funder compliance
Participate in team meetings, professional development, and organizational initiatives as required
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, Career Development, or a related field is preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Previous experience in employment counselling, career development, social services, or a related field is an asset
Experience working with diverse populations, including newcomers, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, or individuals facing multiple barriers

Skills & Competencies

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload effectively
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfort using digital case management tools
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Understanding of the local labour market and community resources in southeast Saskatchewan is an asset
Second language skills are considered an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS

Occasional travel within and outside the community is required; mileage is reimbursed
Must hold a valid Class 5 driver's licence and have access to a reliable vehicle
Ability to manage emotionally challenging situations and maintain professional boundaries
Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Driver's Abstract prior to commencement
Must maintain personal $2,000,000 liability insurance (cost covered by the employer)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Three (3) weeks of paid vacation per working year
Earned Day Off (EDO) program: one EDO earned for every 14 working days
Paid mileage reimbursement for approved travel
Extended Health Benefits following successful completion of the three-month probationary period
