Position Title
Regional Director, Community Nursing-In office
Reports To: Vice President, Clinical Operations (or Chief Operating Officer)
Position Summary
The Regional Director, Community Nursing is responsible for the operational, clinical, and financial leadership of community nursing services across an assigned region(s) within Ontario. The Regional Director ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care while supporting organizational growth, employee engagement, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
Working closely with Clinical Managers, Nursing Supervisors, and interdisciplinary teams, the Regional Director provides leadership and coaching to achieve service excellence, meet contractual obligations, and improve client outcomes. This role serves as a key member of the leadership team, partnering with internal departments and external healthcare partners to strengthen community relationships and enhance service delivery.
The Regional Director combines strategic thinking with day-to-day operational leadership to ensure organizational goals are achieved while maintaining a strong focus on quality care and employee support.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Provide leadership for the day-to-day operations of community nursing programs within assigned regions.
- Support Clinical Managers in managing staffing, scheduling, service delivery, and operational performance.
- Monitor service volumes, capacity, productivity, and client access to care.
- Identify operational challenges and implement practical solutions that improve efficiency and service quality.
- Support new program implementation and operational growth initiatives.
- Participate in the development and execution of annual operational plans.
Clinical Leadership
- Promote excellence in nursing practice consistent with the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-informed, and patient-centred care.
- Support clinical decision-making and problem-solving for complex client situations.
- Monitor quality indicators and implement improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Professional Practice and Quality teams to ensure compliance with organizational policies and best practices.
- Participate in reviews of critical incidents, complaints, and risk management activities.
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, coach, and mentor Clinical Managers and regional leadership teams.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning.
- Conduct performance reviews and support employee development plans.
- Promote employee engagement, wellness, and continuous learning.
- Assist managers with employee relations issues in collaboration with Human Resources.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- College of Nurses of Ontario standards
- Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)
- Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Infection Prevention and Control requirements
- Organizational policies and contractual obligations
- Monitor documentation quality and clinical practice standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation activities.
- Support corrective action planning when quality concerns are identified.
Financial & Business Management
- Assist in developing and managing regional operating budgets.
- Monitor financial performance, staffing utilization, and productivity.
- Identify opportunities to improve resource utilization while maintaining quality care.
- Support achievement of contractual service targets and organizational performance indicators.
- Participate in annual planning and forecasting activities.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong working relationships with Ontario Health atHome, hospitals, primary care providers, community agencies, and other healthcare partners.
- Represent the organization at community meetings and regional planning tables as required.
- Support business development initiatives by identifying opportunities to expand services and strengthen community partnerships.
- Promote the organization's reputation for clinical excellence and responsive service.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) required.
- Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Current unrestricted registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
Experience
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive nursing experience.
- Minimum of 3–5 years in a senior leadership role within home and community care, home health care, or a related healthcare environment.
- Experience leading multiple teams or service locations.
- Demonstrated success in operational leadership, quality improvement, and people management.
- Experience managing operational budgets and performance metrics.
- Strong understanding of Ontario's publicly funded home and community care system.
