RESPONSIBILITIES:
Chinook Valley Inc. is seeking a reliable, hardworking Summer Student to support the day-to-day operations of the Ranch. This role provides hands-on experience in a rural working environment, and completes tasks needed to keep the Ranch operational.
The successful candidate will assume responsibility for the following:
All employees must ensure everything read and heard in the line of duty is kept strictly confidential. A legally binding Confidentiality Agreement will be required.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform trail maintenance, including clearing debris, pruning branches, and mowing;
- Assist with haying operations, as required;
- Support transport of hay bales to storage areas, pens, and barns;
- Monitor hay inventory and report any damage due to weather or wildlife;
- Report property deficiencies or maintenance requirements to the Ranch Foreman or Shop Manager;
- Experience or comfort around horses and livestock is as asset;
- Assist with general maintenance and repair of farm equipment and tools;
- Support basic welding tasks under supervision, as assigned;
- Inspect and assist with repair of fencing and gates;
- Help maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and upkeep;
- Perform daily inspections of water systems, feed levels, and general property conditions;
- Assist with routine inspections of vehicles and equipment;
- Participate in general property checks and basic operational support tasks;
- Assist with safety initiatives, including identifying hazards and supporting safety protocols;
- Contribute to job safety documentation and participate in toolbox safety discussions;
- Assist with fishpond maintenance, including monitoring aeration and feed levels;
- Provide support for on-site events, including setup, teardown, and general logistics; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
To meet the requirements of this role, we are seeking an enthusiastic, dependable individual who is comfortable working outdoors and contributing as part of a team.
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (preferred);
- Valid driver’s license;
- Interest in outdoor, hands-on work in a rural environment;
- Mechanically inclined with a willingness to learn;
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to take direction;
- Comfortable performing physically demanding work in varying weather conditions;
- Ability to maintain discretion and professionalism in a private setting.
