Communications & Development Coordinator
At the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association, our mission is to provide resources and support to help ensure food security for individuals and families across Fort McMurray and surrounding rural communities.
Position Summary
The Communications & Development Coordinator supports the organization’s communications, fundraising, donor relations, events, sponsorships, and public awareness initiatives. This role works closely with the Executive Director, Volunteer Liaison, community partners, sponsors, donors, and media outlets to help grow community engagement and support for the organization.
This position will play a key role in coordinating the organization’s two annual food drives, the Empty Bowls fundraiser, third-party fundraising events, sponsorship outreach, donor stewardship, social media campaigns, and community engagement activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications & Marketing
- Assist with developing and managing social media campaigns, newsletters, website updates, and public awareness initiatives
- Create promotional materials, sponsorship packages, media releases, and event communications
- Support branding consistency across all communication platforms
- Coordinate advertising, media opportunities, and community outreach efforts
Fundraising & Donor Relations
- Assist with planning and coordinating the organization’s two major annual food drives and the Empty Bowls event
- Coordinate third-party fundraising events and community partnerships
- Network with businesses, organizations, sponsors, and community groups to increase awareness and support
- Utilize the Keela donor platform for donor tracking, online giving, donor stewardship, and donation receipting
- Assist with sponsorship outreach and donor communications, both in person and electronically
- Support grant research, sponsorship opportunities, and fundraising initiatives
Community & Volunteer Engagement
- Work alongside the Volunteer Liaison to help coordinate volunteers for events and campaigns
- Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and networking opportunities
- Assist with volunteer communications, appreciation initiatives, and event logistics
Event Coordination
- Support the planning, promotion, and execution of fundraising events, awareness campaigns, and community initiatives
- Serve as a contact for community-led third-party fundraising events
Qualifications
- Experience in communications, fundraising, nonprofit, marketing, or community engagement
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with social media management, digital communications, and event coordination
- Familiarity with Keela or donor management systems is considered an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Canva, and social media platforms
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and assist with event setup
Working Conditions
- Primarily Monday to Friday daytime hours, with occasional evenings and weekends for events and food drives
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working in a busy nonprofit environment supporting individuals and families facing food insecurity
