Salary:
$39.09 - 48.64 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits on regular earnings, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay, paid out with each pay day. Optional enrolment in the College Pension Plan is available, with employer-matched contributions.
The period between Christmas and New Year's Day is unpaid time off.
Description:
The Admissions Officer provides service-oriented, student-focused admissions advising to prospective students interested in and/or applying to NLC programs. This position provides pre-admission guidance to prospective students and/or their agents, advising on program suitability, admission eligibility, and placement based on an assessment of student needs, previous academic history, and future educational goals.
They are responsible for adjudicating admission decisions, advocating for applicants when exceptions may be appropriate, and supporting the monitoring and reporting of admissions activities in alignment with the Strategic Enrolment Plan.
The NLC admissions office is a dynamic and fast-paced environment with periods of increased workload. The Admissions Officer is expected to maintain current knowledge of educational trends, admission practices, and post-secondary systems in Canada and internationally.
This position provides transfer credit guidance and supports the evaluation and maintenance of admissions-related information within Colleague and other institutional data systems. The Admissions Officer prepares and analyzes reports and statistics, contributes to enrolment management initiatives, and participates in recruitment activities and events that promote the College and support student admission. This includes building relationships with regional school districts and community partners.
Qualifications:
Required:

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and three years of admissions or advising experience within a post-secondary environment (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

Significant knowledge of admissions practices, post-secondary transfer credit processes and enrolment management.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide exceptional service to diverse student populations.

Excellent organizational, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and resolve complex issues.

Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, including mail merge functions.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative and dynamic team.

Valid driver's license (Class 7 is acceptable) due to travel requirements.
Preferred:

Extensive knowledge of post-secondary transfer regulations and practices.

Experience working with a Student Information System.

Experience with international admissions, including the evaluation of international documents.

Significant experience working with automated admissions processes and systems.
