Posting Summary:
Behaviour Interventionists support children & youth with behavioural & emotional disorders and/or developmental conditions. Their purpose is to create meaningful change within each client by implementing treatment plans as effectively as possible. Behaviour Interventionists at Ascend work in our office location and in the local community as needed to implement therapeutic change strategies. Behaviour Interventionists must be able to work as part of a team and be able to take direction and implement treatment plans from a variety of Professionals such as Behaviour Consultants, Occupational Therapists and Speech & Language Pathologists. Behaviour Interventionists need to be able to set boundaries with compassion and consistency. Please note: We are unable to provide assistance with permanent residency for this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Complete data tracking and session notes after each session.
· Prepare and maintain the learning environment for individual client needs.
· Develop optimal learning opportunities and activities for individual client needs.
· Work within a team to support clients.
· Report to a team lead for each client, and often a Behaviour Consultant.
· Have a reliable vehicle and a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record (Driver's Abstract will be required)
Qualifications & Requirements
· Must be 19 years of age or older.
· Kind, fun, and energetic with great play skills.
· Ability to get down on the floor, lift children and assist with personal care.
· Minimum 12 months experience working with special needs populations (preferably with autism but work with other disorders is also strongly considered).
· Post-secondary education in a related area of study such as: Disability and Applied
Behaviour Analysis, Behaviour Intervention training, Special Education Assistant, Child & Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Psychology or Social Work, Community Support Worker, etc. is an asset but willing to train
· Basic computer skills as data-taking/report writing is required.
· Fluency in speaking, writing and reading English.
· Dependability & consistency in attending sessions.
· Ability to express one’s own needs and take initiative for the client’s benefit.
· Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers & parents.
· Willingness to complete Criminal Record check.
Working Conditions
· Willingness to work with clients who may exhibit challenging behaviors, including
· aggression.
· Willingness to assist with personal care such as toileting and feeding.
· Willingness to pursue further training and education such as First Aid, Behaviour Interventionist Basic Training etc.
· There is potential for workers to experience verbal aggression, such as swearing, or physical aggression, which could result in injury.
