Job Summary

Reporting to the General Manager/Health Director, the Land-based Healing Coordinator will offer programming that provides participants with opportunities to heal and connect with the land while supporting SFN Community Food Sovereignty efforts. The Land-based Healing Coordinator will apply the guidance of SFN Elders in selecting best practices for Land-based Healing Models that work to include language revitalization. Healing activities will be in collaboration with other staff at the Wellness Center including the Wellness Worker, Community Health Representative, and from other departments, Elders Support Worker, Youth Support Worker and CSFS staff to include all ages.

Responsibilities:

Collaboration, administration, direct services, collaboration with Community Health Representative, Food Sovereignty Coordinator, Elders Support Worker, Youth Support Worker, Wellness Workers, Health Director.
Establish individuals and groups for participation in traditional healing events including; hunting, fishing, gardening, berry picking, healing fire, medicine making, and other activities that arise from other traditional events.
Establish safe cliental procedures for connecting participants with primary care providers that can assist with their healing journeys during after-care.
Teach and model traditional food harvesting, fishing, hunting, storytelling, also teach and model traditional food preparation techniques such as canning, smoking, drying meat/fish, setting nets, and preparing animals after hunting/fishing.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Ability to provide instruction in traditional knowledge (living and working on the Land).
Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions (specifically Stellat’en).
Planning and organizational skills-prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realist action plans
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Familiarity with Northern and Rural Communities and environments.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Xyntax, Systems, and other related computer software.
Initial and on-going employment is subject to submission to Criminal Records Check. Employees are expected to sign an SFN Code of Conduct and Ethics, Oath of Confidentiality Contracts.
Class 5 BC Driver’s License and reliable vehicle

Education and Experience Requirements

Grade 12 Diploma/Equivalent, or a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Cultural Facilitation, Community Wellness or related fields
A diploma for certificate in Indigenous Studies from a recognized post-secondary considered an asset
The applicant must have or be prepared to obtain with a reasonable timeframe:
Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification
Boat Operating License
Snowmobile Safety Course
Canadian Firearms Safety Course (for non-restricted weapons); The Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Education CORE (to hunting)
Possession and Acquisition License (gun license)
WHIMIS
Safe Food Handling
