About the Manager, Merchandising Programs role

The Manager, Merchandising Programs is accountable for defining, leading, and evolving ANBL’s merchandising strategy. This role provides strategic oversight to build and deliver compelling, customer-centric, and impactful promotional experiences that align with organizational goals and priorities.
This role is accountable for balancing ANBL’s strategic vision with disciplined planning and execution to ensure that the merchandising programs are insight-driven, operationally sound, and performance-oriented. As the Manager of Merchandising Programs, this person leads the development of promotional programs and experiences that maximize value for consumers, strengthens vendor partnerships, and drives measurable impacts.
The Manager also leads and develops a high-performing merchandising team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer focus.
Additional Responsibilities:
Merchandising Strategy & Program Leadership

Lead and define ANBL’s merchandising strategy, ensuring alignment with ANBL, Brand and Marketing, Category Management, and Channel strategies and plans.

Develop and maintain a multi-year roadmap for merchandising innovation, program optimization, and evolution.

Lead the design of customer-centric merchandising programs and promotional experiences that support continued growth and enhancement of the customer experience.

Identify and pursue opportunities to improve merchandising program structure, execution standards, and overall program effectiveness.

Ensure merchandising programs are strategically aligned, operationally feasible, and positioned to deliver measurable outcomes.
Program Performance, Insights & Optimization

Accountable for the overall performance, effectiveness, and continuous evolution of ANBL's merchandising programs.

Leverage performance data and customer, market, and industry insights to inform merchandising strategies.

Partner with Business Intelligence and key stakeholders to establish performance measurement frameworks, reporting, and program evaluation processes.

Utilize post-program analysis and performance insights to optimize program design, resource allocation, and future promotional programming strategies.

Monitor industry trends, cross-jurisdictional activity, emerging merchandising practices, and consumer behaviors to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Management

Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships across Brand and Marketing, Category Management, Channel, Supply Chain, Pricing, Finance, and Business Intelligence.

Serve as the subject matter expert on merchandising program strategy, providing leadership, guidance, and recommendations to internal and external key stakeholders.

Influence and align cross-functional teams to ensure successful development, execution, and evaluation of merchandising initiatives.

Lead cross-functional planning to ensure merchandising programs support broader organizational priorities and objectives.
Vendor Strategy & Partnerships

Develop strategic vendor engagement approaches that strengthen vendor partnerships and maximize value and outcomes.

Influence vendor investment in merchandising programs through compelling program strategies, performance insights, and informed opportunities.

Collaborate with vendor partners to identify innovative merchandising opportunities that enhance customer experience and drive relevant customer programming and results.
People Leadership & Effectiveness

Provide strong, visible leadership to the Merchandising Programs team by establishing clear priorities, expectations, and performance standards.

Lead, coach, mentor, and develop team members to build capability and support individual growth and succession planning.

Foster a high-performance culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, innovation, customer focus, and continuous improvement.

Conduct performance management activities, including goal setting, coaching, performance reviews, and development planning aligned with corporate objectives.

What do you need to be successful?
While a formal degree or diploma is preferred, we value practical experience and are open to considering candidates with equivalent experience in lieu of educational qualifications.

8-10 years in a business leadership role, with demonstrated ability to build informed strategic plans.

Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and initiatives in support of shared goals.

Proven experience in building and executing merchandising or promotional strategies and plans.

Proven ability to translate data and insights into measurable impact-focused strategies.

Experience leading, developing, and managing high-performing teams.

Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills.

Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning capabilities.

Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with executive-level communication experience.

Deep understanding of retail environments and customer experience strategy.

Experience within beverage alcohol or regulated retail environments.

The Train Station Office is located in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
