Job Title: Kitchen Helper & Dishwasher

Position Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Job Overview

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Helper & Dishwasher to join our team. In this role, you will be the backbone of our kitchen, ensuring a clean, safe environment while assisting our chefs with basic food preparation. A successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, maintains high hygiene standards, and is eager to learn the basics of a professional Japanese kitchen.

Key Responsibilities1. Dishwashing & Sanitation

Wash and sanitize all dishes, cutlery, glassware, pots, and pans efficiently using both commercial dishwashers and manual hand-washing techniques.
Handle delicate Japanese tableware (such as ceramic sake sets, lacquerware bento boxes, ramen bowls, and premium sushi platters) with extreme care to prevent chipping.
Maintain clean, organized, and dry dish storage areas.
Clear trash, recycling, and compost bins throughout the shift and ensure the dish pit remains clutter-free.

Food Prep & Kitchen Support

Assist with basic prep work under the guidance of the chefs (e.g., washing vegetables, peeling ginger/garlic, portioning sauces, and preparing edamame).
Help prep essential Japanese kitchen staples, such as washing rice or setting up misoshiru (miso soup) stations.
Unpack, label, and properly store food deliveries using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method.

Maintenance & Safety

Sweep and mop kitchen floors at regular intervals and during end-of-shift deep cleaning.
Clean and sanitize kitchen workstations, prep counters, and high-touch surfaces.
Adhere strictly to local health department guidelines and workplace safety standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Previous experience as a dishwasher or kitchen helper is a plus, but we are fully willing to train anyone with the right attitude.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 40 lbs (like heavy rice bags or dish racks), and work in a hot, humid environment.
Pace & Efficiency: Ability to work quickly and stay calm during busy dinner rushes.
Teamwork: A positive, helpful attitude with great communication skills.
Availability: Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
