Director, Business Development & Market Expansion
Location: Ontario (Hybrid with travel as required)
Compensation: $130,000 - $150,000 base salary plus uncapped commission, car allowance, and comprehensive benefits.

Position Summary
The Director, Business Development & Market Expansion will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic relationships, and expanding market presence across existing and emerging regions. This is a true hunter role focused on generating net-new business through early engagement with architects, designers, developers, construction professionals, commercial real estate stakeholders, and corporate clients. Success will be measured through new revenue generation, strategic account acquisition, market penetration, qualified pipeline development, specification activity, conversion rates, and profitable growth. The successful candidate is entrepreneurial, highly motivated, and thrives on building new business while creating long-term strategic relationships.
Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development & Market Expansion
- Develop and execute an aggressive market expansion strategy aligned with corporate growth objectives.
- Identify and penetrate new geographic markets and customer segments.
- Generate qualified opportunities through proactive prospecting, networking, and relationship development.
- Develop market-entry strategies for targeted industries and regions.
- Build relationships with architects, designers, consultants, developers, contractors, and end users.
- Identify strategic partnerships, dealer channels, distribution opportunities, and other growth initiatives.
Revenue Generation
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline capable of supporting aggressive growth targets.
- Lead opportunities from initial engagement through project award.
- Develop relationships with senior decision-makers across commercial, institutional, healthcare, education, industrial, and real estate sectors.
- Work collaboratively with estimating, operations, project management, and executive leadership to support successful project pursuits.
Strategic Relationship Management
- Establish long-term partnerships with key industry influencers.
- Represent the organization at industry events and networking functions.
- Increase brand awareness within targeted markets.
Market Intelligence
- Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, customer needs, and construction forecasts.
- Identify emerging opportunities and recommend strategic growth initiatives.
- Provide executive leadership with market intelligence and business development insights.
Pipeline Management
- Maintain accurate CRM records and sales forecasts.
- Track pipeline activity and key business development metrics.
- Provide regular reporting to executive leadership.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 10 years of progressive business development or sales leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success generating significant net-new revenue.
- Experience selling into commercial construction, building products, architectural solutions, engineered products, or related industries.
- Proven ability to develop opportunities from prospecting through project award.
- Established network within architecture, construction, commercial real estate, development, or related markets.
- Strong consultative selling, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
- Valid driver's licence with willingness to travel throughout Ontario and periodically across North America.
Preferred
- Experience working with specification-driven sales.
- Existing relationships with architectural firms, developers, contractors, consultants, and institutional clients.
- Experience leading regional or national market expansion initiatives.
- Post-secondary education in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
