The Organization:
A.E.W. LP was formed in 2017 by Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council member communities to carry out “on the ground” work related to archaeology, the environment and wildlife protection. This work has been made necessary by activities of others within the Nlaka’pamux homeland including transportation, mining, forestry, oil and gas, and utilities projects. The Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council is not opposed to development within our homeland, but developments and activities must be consistent with Nlaka’pamux title and rights.

The Role:
A.E.W. Limited Partnership (A.E.W. LP) is seeking 3 full-time on-going Archaeology Field Directors to work on the Highland Valley Copper Mine Life Extension (HVC MLE) project near Logan Lake, BC. These roles will be on be on a rotating shift of 7 days on and 7 days off with 50% of their time in the field. Field Directors provide on-site management, direction and reporting of activities and personnel related to archaeological projects and Cultural Heritage projects. Reporting to the Manager of Archaeology, the Field Director will:
- Conduct background research and report review
- Planning and logistics for field projects
- Liaise with community members and NNTC personnel
- Conduct survey and shovel testing
- Record and maintain accurate field notes and photographic records
- Collect and log GPS data
- Site mapping using survey-grade equipment and/or chain and compass
- Planning and executing evaluative unit excavations
- Draw EU profiles and recording layer characterizations
- Train and mentoring field crew
- Submit and complete daily field paperwork to the Project Manager for approval
- Assist with report mapping
- Supervise more junior staff and other field workers where appropriate
- Prepare summary, interim and final reports
- Commit to be a positive team member
- Commit to respecting Nlaka’pamux title and rights
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Graduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology or an undergraduate degree with equivalent experience
- Eligible for Field Director status for the Interior Plateau B.C.
- 4 years demonstrated experience in B.C. heritage resource management (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and experience in adhering to occupational health & safety practices
- Strong technical, mapping and reporting ability
- Proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel
- Experience working within a team environment
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
What makes you exceptional:
- BC-based archaeology field school (or equivalent)
- Experience working with Indigenous Communities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and team members
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Willing and able to work shift schedules and travel or work out of town as required
- Physically capable of performing fieldwork in all weather conditions
