Contract Position – Monthly Retainer

Position Overview
Eastern Safety Services is seeking a licensed Physician to serve as Medical Director and Medical Control Physician for the organization’s emergency medical, occupational health, and remote healthcare operations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Medical Director will provide medical oversight for Paramedics, Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), Nurses, and other healthcare professionals employed or contracted by Eastern Safety Services. Healthcare personnel may be assigned to industrial first aid stations, construction projects, mining operations, remote camps, special events, and other occupational health environments.
Paramedics and EMRs employed by Eastern Safety Services shall follow practice within their legislated scope of practice and in accordance with the NLPR protocols, standards, and directives established by the provincial Office of the Medical Director and applicable regulatory authorities.
Primary Responsibilities
The Medical Director shall:
- Serve as the designated Medical Control Physician for the organization.
- Provide consultation regarding patient assessment, treatment decisions, referral pathways, and transport recommendations.
Medical Control and Consultation
The Medical Director shall provide:
- During regular daytime hours, telephone, virtual, email, or other reasonable consultation services for healthcare personnel when clinical guidance is required.
- Medical consultation for complex patient presentations, unusual clinical situations, and workplace medical emergencies.
- Guidance related to occupational health concerns and workplace medical programs.
Remote and Occupational Health Services
The Medical Director will provide oversight and support for healthcare services delivered in:
- Remote industrial camps.
- Mining and exploration projects.
- Construction and infrastructure projects.
- Occupational health clinics and first aid stations.
- Special events and emergency response operations.
- Other environments where Eastern Safety Services provides healthcare personnel.
Regulatory Compliance
The Medical Director shall:
- Maintain familiarity with provincial healthcare legislation and professional practice standards.
- Support compliance with requirements established by provincial regulatory authorities.
- Ensure company healthcare operations align with recognized medical, legal, and ethical standards.
Medical Equipment and Supplies
The Medical Director may:
- Provide recommendations regarding medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and supplies.
- Assist with the development of medical inventories for first aid stations and remote medical facilities.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Current licensure and good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Certification and experience in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Rural Medicine, Remote Medicine, or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of pre-hospital emergency care, paramedic practice, and occupational health services.
Time Commitment
The position is structured as a monthly retainer arrangement and is expected to include:
- Scheduled monthly meetings with management.
- Availability for reasonable physician consultation requests.
Compensation
Compensation will be provided through a negotiated monthly retainer fee based on the anticipated level of support and consultation required.
