Your Opportunity:

This opportunity allows you to become a Regularized Relief Health Care Aides (0.8 FTE) in Mackenzie Place (Float Team). Reporting to the Care Manager, you will be scheduled to work shifts in both Designated Supportive Living (Type B) units, Enhanced Care Unit (ECU) or the Transition Care Unit (TCU). The Type B units provide clients with a home where they can enjoy privacy and independence with the comfort of knowing their health and personal care supports are on-site when needed. The ECU is a dynamic environment that is designed to meet the needs of individuals who present with a combination of dementia syndrome and complex behavioral issues. If you are a Health Care Aide (HCA) who likes variety and thrives on giving client and family-centered care within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, this position will appeal to you. Mackenzie Place recognizes that each client has unique values and personal history with an equal right to dignity, respect, and to participate fully in their environment. The HCA participates as a regulated worker in the delivery of quality client care by performing services necessary for the physical/emotional well-being and comfort of the client under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Duties include assisting clients with activities of daily living, personal care, lifting and transferring, and assisting with health care tasks/procedures as necessary. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must be willing and able to float to all 4 areas as staffing needs require, including on short notice. Experience in Seniors' Health and /or Palliative Care is an asset. Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI). Medication Assistance Program (MAP). Foot care course/experience. Current BLS (CPR) registration. Supportive Pathways training.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Seniors' Health and /or Palliative Care is an asset. Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI). Medication Assistance Program (MAP). Foot care course/experience. Current BLS (CPR) registration. Supportive Pathways or Supportive Dementia course, Code White activation.
