Rate of Pay: $37.29 per hour

Main Function: This position is responsible to the Citywide Foreperson, with day-to day direction of the Tree Warden to promote a sustainable urban and rural forest as part of managing municipal tree assets.
Duties:
1. Maintain municipal trees located in municipal right of ways, woodlots, parks, and other municipal facilities.
2. Operate dielectric and arborist tools to clear limbs and suckers from hydro lines, traffic signs, sidewalks and other structure or assets, as required.
3. Use ropes, saddles, climbing equipment and/or rigging to safely prune or remove trees.
4. Clear deadwood, remove overhanging branches, clear branches from hydro lines using saws and pruners.
5. Prune or remove damaged, diseased, dying or overgrown trees according to policy, procedures and generally accepted arboriculture practices.
6. Cut and remove roots and stumps manually and with motorized stumper.
7. Remove fallen trees from roads.
8. Maintain municipal tree assets and nurseries.
9. Accurately maintain City of Greater Sudbury (CGS) data base as it relates to work orders and tree inventory.
10. Operate brush chippers with and without hydraulic winch lines.
11. Operate an aerial truck with hydraulic lifting device; inspect site for access and positioning of truck.
12. Ensure equipment is properly maintained and safely operated. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment
13. Work with and inspect the work of contractors to ensure tree planting, pruning, removal, and related work is completed to meet CGS standards.
14. Develop and implement traffic control plans in accordance with the Ontario Traffic Manual, Book 7: Temporary Field Conditions.
15. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
16. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Education and Training:
- Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
- Must hold and maintain one of the following:
o Certification as a Utility Arborist (444B) through the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
o Certification as a Certified Arborist and Certified Utility Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).
Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience in Arboriculture around live conductors.

- Must be physically capable of performing characteristic duties.
- Must be able to operate an aerial truck as well as various dielectric and arborist tools.
- Aerial Rescue training considered an asset.
- Must comply with applicable provincial standards and acts.
- Be able to identify species of trees in order to prune correctly.
- Proven dependability to work without direct supervision in a team environment.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
- May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Class “DZ” driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $35.43 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
