SNOLAB is Canada’s deep-underground science laboratory, located at a depth of 2 kilometers in Vale’s Creighton Mine near Sudbury, Ontario. The facility supports world-class astroparticle physics research and has attracted innovative life science and quantum technology programs. About the Role
Mechanical Maintainers are primarily responsible for moving materials and performing maintenance and repairs to industrial machinery, air conditioning and laboratory equipment. Mechanical Maintainers are expected to operate locomotives for the tramming of materials and forklifts for loading and unloading railcars and moving supplies. This role is also expected to install non-specialized systems or support technical experts with the installation of specialized systems. The position may require compliance with SNOLAB’s Sewage Handling Procedure.
· Operate heavy equipment including the locomotive (tram) and forklift as required.
· Change filters, perform checks, clean and lubricate equipment such as the chiller, pumps, STP, air handlers, laboratory equipment and compressors.
· Complete documentation regarding the receipt and shipment of materials using either a paper-based system, ReQlogic or any other logistics systems.
· Routine troubleshooting, adjustments and repairs of equipment.
· Mechanical support for trades and technical staff as required.
· Provide support for basic installations and fabrication using hand and power tools.
· Erect and install scaffolding, hoisting equipment and rigging as per recognized standard practices.
· Dismantle structures and equipment when required.
· Keep work areas tidy and organized.
· Document completed work as required.
· Communicate ideas for improving work flow or other task improvements.
· Adhere to stated policies and procedures relating to health and safety, quality management and quality assurance.
· Participate in preventative maintenance programs for all conventional laboratory systems and subsystems.

Education and Experience:
· High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Ability to operate heavy equipment.
· Basic knowledge of hand and power tools and their use.
· Knowledge of basic rigging practices.
· Knowledge of safe working techniques and practices.
· Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and sub-systems.
· Effective oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to understand and follow written instructions.
· Teamwork.
· Computer Skills.
· Must be able to lift, carry and move/arrange items while standing, stooping, crawling and kneeling.
· Must be able to lift and carry items ranging in weight from 10-50lbs on a regular basis.
· Must be able to load and safely operate heavy equipment for transporting materials.
Salary Range: $54,586 - $59,610
