HUNTER/JUMPER COACH WANTED
Valiant Equestrian | Petersburg, Ontario
Developing Riders, Not Passengers™
Valiant Equestrian is a boutique riding school located in Petersburg, Ontario. We offer a structured, progressive riding program for children, youth, and adults, from beginners through competitive riders.
Our program follows the Equestrian Canada Rider Level system, with an emphasis on developing knowledgeable, confident, and independent riders who understand both their horse and the sport.
We believe that becoming a good rider is about more than simply sitting on a horse. Our students are taught to ride, care for, and understand horses while developing responsibility, confidence, horsemanship, and independence.
THE POSITION
The primary focus of this position will be beginner and novice-level coaching, with the opportunity to progress into higher-level coaching as the coach gains experience within our program and learns all our school horses.
We are looking for someone who enjoys teaching the fundamentals and understands the importance of creating a strong foundation for developing riders.
The successful candidate will:
- Teach beginner and novice group and private lessons
- Follow the Valiant Equestrian lesson program and Equestrian Canada Rider Level progression
- Develop safe, confident, and independent riders
- Teach correct position, flatwork, equitation, and introductory jumping
- Incorporate horsemanship and horse care into the learning experience
- Help students understand the why, not simply follow instructions
- Develop rider confidence, responsibility, and good decision-making
- Provide a positive and encouraging learning environment
- Communicate effectively with students and parents/guardians
- Work as part of the Valiant Equestrian coaching team
- Maintain Valiant Equestrian's standards for safety, horsemanship, and professionalism
As the coach becomes established within the program, there may be opportunities to progress into more advanced lessons and competitive coaching.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate will be:
- An experienced Hunter/Jumper rider
- Comfortable teaching beginner and novice riders
- Patient, encouraging, and able to explain concepts clearly
- Positive, professional, and approachable
- Knowledgeable about horse care and horsemanship
- Safety-conscious
- Reliable and organized
- A strong communicator
- A team player
- Passionate about developing riders
The ideal candidate will already hold a Registered Equestrian Canada coaching certification or be interested in becoming registered.
If you are the right fit for our program but are not yet registered, we are happy to support you through the process of becoming registered and help you work toward the appropriate Equestrian Canada coaching credentials.
Previous showing experience is an asset.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who shares our philosophy: DEVELOPING RIDERS, NOT PASSENGERS™. We want our students to leave a lesson knowing more than when they arrived — not simply having been put on a horse and told what to do.
OUR FACILITY
Valiant Equestrian offers a professional, comfortable, and well-maintained facility for both our horses and our team.
Our facility includes:
- Show-size outdoor riding arena
- Large indoor riding arena with dust control
- Full Hunter/Jumper equipment and courses
- Well-maintained private riding trails
- Dedicated wash stall with hot and cold water
- Heated office, feed room, blanket room, viewing room, proper indoor washroom facilities
- On-site parking
- Professionally maintained horse facilities
Our goal is to provide an environment where riders, horses, clients, and staff can learn and work comfortably year-round.
RIDING & SCHOOLING OPPORTUNITIES
Coaching is the primary role.
For the right candidate, there may also be opportunities to ride and school horses within the Valiant Equestrian program. This is not a requirement of the position.
Candidates with strong riding, showing and horse-training experience are encouraged to include this information in their application.
