Early childhood Director Assistant
Job Summary
Position: Early Childhood Educator -Director Assistant (ECE)
Vacancies: 1
Wage and Benefits: $27.61-$31.25 per hour, with medical and dental package
Terms of Employment: Permanent, Full-time
Working Schedule: 40 hours per week, 8:30AM to 17:30PM Monday to Friday, with 1 hour of unpaid lunch break
Work Setting: Daycare (with children aged 18 months -6 years )

JOB DUTIES:
Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children
Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest, and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity
Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
Assess the abilities, interests, and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisor
Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
Maintain a neat and clean environment, including all activity and teaching areas, common areas, diningroom and washrooms
Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children
Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits for toddlers
Prepare snacks and arrange rooms, seats, and beds for lunch and rest periods
This Director Assistant also includes the following duties:
Administrative Support: Assist with scheduling, payroll, billing, and maintaining student records.
Staff Management: Help train, and mentor teaching staff; conduct performance reviews.
Compliance: Ensure the center remains in full compliance with licensing standards and health/safety codes.
Family Engagement: Lead tours for prospective families, handle parent concerns, and foster a welcoming community.
Curriculum Oversight: Support teachers in implementing age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
Operations: Manage inventory of supplies and assist with the daily flow of the center.
Qualifications:
- ECE level 2/3
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Must meet Nova Scotia licensing requirements for Administrative/Director roles.
- Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
