Relief Workers are called on a casual basis to work shifts at Phoenix Youth Shelter (emergency shelter), Phoenix House (long-term residence) and at Phoenix Centre for Youth (walk-in centre). Although we cannot guarantee hours, we are usually able to provide Relief Workers with 20-40 hours of work per week. Ideal candidates will have availability to pick up between 4-6 shifts per month, with shifts that may be pre-scheduled or on a call-out basis. Relief Workers should be prepared to work in the 3 programs listed above and to work any time of day including awake overnights with shift lengths ranging from 2 to 12 hours.
Currently, our primary schedule needs include:
Daytime availability (between 7am and 4pm)- Weekday and Weekend
Awake overnight availability (between 11pm and 8am) with overnight shift premium of $1/hour for hours worked within this shift- weekday and weekend
Reports to: Manager of Program
Compensation & Benefits:
$24.25 per hour ($25.25 per hour for overnight shifts)
4% vacation pay
Employee and Family Assistance Program- consisting of up to 5 hours of free counselling per year for you and each eligible dependant

Ability to participate in free training opportunities for certification in Standard First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Applied Suicide Intervention Training
Paid time to participate in all agency wide professional development sessions and meetings
Meals, snacks and beverages provided for shifts worked at the Shelter or House programs
Minimum of 2 staff at all times for all Shelter work shifts
Screening Requirements: Due to the sensitive nature of our work with youth, this position is subject to a satisfactory criminal record check including a vulnerable sector search, a child abuse register check and proof of education.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide support and programming for youth.
Provide a supportive environment that promotes youth empowerment.
Assess and address the needs of the programs’ youth, including crisis intervention.
Complete and maintain all logs, files and records as required and ensure confidentiality is protected.
Supervise and monitor the program’s activities and ensure that policies, security and safety are maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Social Work or any other relevant human services or social science diploma or degree (e.g. Child and Youth studies, Social Services, Psychology etc.)
Proven track record in establishing good working relationships with youth.
Demonstrated skills in the development of rapport and trust with youth; the creation of a safe and secure setting for youth; and ensuring that youth services are offered in a therapeutic and non-judgmental manner.
Ability to work from a youth-centred approach.
Demonstrated exceptional level of interpersonal, communication, organizational and youth service skills.
Non-violent crisis intervention (Crisis Prevention Institute preferable), suicide intervention (ASIST), standard first aid or a commitment to secure those requirements within six months of being hired.
