Summary
We are looking for a Licensed Automotive Technician with Canadian qualifications and shop experience who understands the standards, the systems and the pace this role demands.
Responsibilities
- Provide an excellent customer experience by staying attentive to the needs of the customer and their vehicle
- Explain procedures, repairs and any additional maintenance work required to build trust and long term customer relationships
- Liaise with Management, Service Advisors, Installers and the Back Parts Window Associate to ensure smooth communication throughout every repair or maintenance job
- Provide accurate estimates and written vehicle reports for all work performed
- Deliver quality workmanship that meets or exceeds industry standards
- Perform tasks within industry flat rate time allowances
- Report any unsafe vehicle to management and the vehicle owner
- Keep vehicles clean and free of damage using seat covers and floor mats
- Provide a business card to each customer
- Retain used parts for customers upon request
- Share ideas and suggestions to improve the customer experience in the Automotive Service Centre
- Handle challenging situations in a professional and composed manner
Job Duties
- Perform accurate and complete vehicle inspections, diagnostics and repairs
- Conduct daily bay inspections to maintain shop neatness and cleanliness
- Instruct, monitor and verify work completed by apprentices, sharing knowledge and skills with other staff members
- Provide accurate cost and time estimates for service and repair needs to the Service Advisor
- Complete and review repair orders and vehicle inspection reports with customers and or service advisors
- Maintain company owned and personally owned equipment and tools as required
- Stay current with automotive technology across most domestic and imported vehicles
- Perform road tests in compliance with store policy
- Show respect for all shop tools and equipment
- Participate in meetings and required training, applying feedback to improve performance
- Comply with all company, store and Automotive Service Centre policies
- Follow all health and safety programs and regulations, reporting any observed or potential hazards immediately
- Maintain a professional appearance and use professional language at all times, including uniform, hygiene, grooming and name tag
- Complete other tasks as required
Requirements
- Red Seal Inter Provincial Certification
- Canadian automotive shop experience
- CFC Handling Certification
- Valid driver's license with a clean abstract for the province of employment
- Comfort working within computerized shop systems
- CoStar experience considered an asset
- Experience in a similar role, in a Canadian Tire Auto Service Centre, is considered an asset

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
In compliance with the store's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, this role involves:
- Standing and walking for 8 hours
- Lifting and carrying merchandise items on a regular, frequent and unassisted basis, ranging from light to heavy
- Repeated lifting and turning throughout the shift
- Lifting above the shoulder, from floor to shoulder and floor to waist
- Going up and down a ladder while carrying merchandise
- Walking and carrying items at the same time, along with pushing and pulling as required
- Twisting, turning, reaching and working above shoulder level
Compensation
Flat rate pay of $35.00 to $42.00 per unit, with technicians averaging 32 to 45 units weekly based on shop volume and efficiency
