About Cedar Strong
Cedar Strong Prevention & Intervention Society provides supportive, client-centred services to individuals and families in Hope and the surrounding communities.
We are seeking compassionate, dependable, and respectful Resident Care Aides to join the team at our new shelter and supportive housing facility.
The Resident Care Aide provides personal-care assistance and practical support to residents who may require help with daily living activities, medication routines, mobility, appointments, household tasks, and access to community services.
The successful candidate will provide care in a respectful, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and person-centred manner while promoting resident dignity, independence, choice, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide residents with personal-care assistance based on their assessed needs and established care plans.
- Support residents with personal hygiene, oral care, skin care, dressing, toileting, continence needs, and other activities of daily living.
- Encourage residents to participate in their own care and maintain as much independence as possible.
- Explain care activities, obtain consent, and respect each resident’s privacy, dignity, choices, and personal boundaries.
- Provide medication reminders and administer medications in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, training, and authorized practice.
- Contact pharmacies regarding prescription refills and pick up prescriptions when required.
- Support residents with medication organization and established medication-management routines.
- Assist residents with scheduling and attending medical, health-care, and community appointments.
- Accompany residents to appointments, errands, and other approved community activities.
- Support resident mobility, transfers, positioning, and ambulation in accordance with care directions and safe-work procedures.
- Observe residents and their environments and report behavioural, physical, cognitive, functional, or health-related changes to the appropriate supervisor.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, potential hazards, medication concerns, and changes in resident well-being.
- Assist with referrals to health-care providers, community agencies, and other support services.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and provide clear, relevant information regarding resident needs, progress, and concerns.
- Prepare and present resident-related reports when required.
- Complete and maintain accurate documentation, including admission, transfer, discharge, care, medication, appointment, and observation records.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect residents’ personal and health information.
- Check and restock personal-care, first-aid, household, and program supplies.
- Assist with inventory management and notify the appropriate employee when supplies need to be reordered.
- Complete housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, washing dishes, and laundry.
- Complete limited food preparation, including heating prepared food and making tea or coffee.
- Follow infection-prevention, health and safety, emergency-response, and safe-work procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Recognized Resident Care Aide, Health Care Assistant, or equivalent certificate.
- At least one year of recent, relevant experience.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered where appropriate.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Current FoodSafe certification.
- Medication-administration training or experience is considered an asset.
- Naloxone training or willingness to complete required training.

- Physical ability to safely perform the duties of the position.
Working Conditions
This position works in a shelter and supportive housing environment and includes ongoing interaction with residents who may be experiencing homelessness, poverty, substance use, mental-health concerns, physical-health challenges, mobility limitations, or other complex circumstances.
The role requires emotional patience, adaptability, sound judgment, professional boundaries, and the ability to treat all individuals with dignity and respect.
Resident Care Aides may be required to respond to unexpected health, behavioural, or safety concerns and must be able to communicate relevant information promptly to supervisors, emergency services, health-care providers, or other members of the support team.
The position involves regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, assisting with resident mobility, completing household tasks, and moving personal-care or program supplies. Applicants must be physically capable of performing the required duties safely and consistently.
Applicants must be available to work a varied schedule, which may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Additional Information
This position is connected to a new facility that remains under development. The anticipated start date and work arrangements may be adjusted based on construction completion, facility readiness, program implementation, onboarding requirements, resident needs, staffing levels, and operational requirements.
Any adjustments will be made in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, employment standards legislation, and Cedar Strong policies.
