About the Position
Vision Contracting is looking for a motivated, dependable General Contractor’s Assistant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in residential construction while working alongside experienced carpenters and tradespeople on a variety of custom construction and renovation projects throughout Muskoka. The successful candidate will be eager to learn, committed to safety, and willing to take on a variety of hands-on tasks while developing their skills.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist carpenters and the general contractor with residential construction and renovation projects.
· Measure, cut, carry, prepare, assemble, and install building materials accurately and safely.
· Build and assemble wood structures and other construction components under direction.
· Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
· Assist with framing, roofing, flooring, drywall, cabinetry, trim, finishing work, and general carpentry tasks.
· Help erect scaffolding, ladders, protection, and temporary work platforms as required.
· Load, unload, organize, and transport materials, tools, supplies, and equipment.
· Perform site preparation, excavation, trenching, demolition, cleanup, and general labour duties.
· Assist with concrete forming, pouring, and finishing when required.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site at all times.
· Work safely around construction equipment and assist equipment operators as directed.
· Follow project plans, supervisor instructions, company procedures, and safety requirements.
· Complete daily job notes and use construction apps for time tracking and communication.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
· Work takes place on residential construction, renovation, and repair job sites throughout Muskoka.
· Duties may be performed indoors and outdoors in changing weather and site conditions.
· Daily work may involve lifting materials, using tools, working around dust or noise, and adapting to changing project needs.
· Personal protective equipment and safe work practices are required at all times.
Qualifications
· Punctual, dependable, and able to work 44 hours per week.
· Reliable transportation in all seasons.
· Previous construction, renovation, carpentry, labour, property maintenance, or skilled trades experience.
· Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on construction labour.
· Comfortable working at heights and around active job sites.
· Willing to learn from supervisors, experienced team members, and subcontractors.
· Able to work independently and as part of a team.
· Organized, self-motivated, and committed to strong housekeeping habits.
· Positive attitude with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
· Committed to workplace health and safety and proper use of personal protective equipment.
· Able to read and follow written instructions.
· Comfortable using email and construction-based mobile applications.
· Able to perform basic math and accurately read a tape measure.
Preferred Assets
· Experience operating skid steers, telehandlers, excavators, or similar equipment.
· 2–3 years of prior experience in the carpentry or construction field.
· WHMIS, Working at Heights/Fall Arrest, or First Aid & CPR certifications; training can be provided if required.
· Personal hand tools suitable for general carpentry work.

Pay: $25.00-$29.00 per hour
