Transition Year with Lead Guide Role Beginning September 2027
Muskoka Montessori School is a non-profit, charitable, CCMA-accredited Montessori school located in Huntsville, Ontario. We serve children from age three through Grade 8 and are committed to authentic Montessori education within a caring and collaborative school community.
We are seeking an experienced, fully trained Lower Elementary Montessori Guide to join our team in September 2026 OR September 2027.
This position is designed as a transition year. During the 2026-2027 school year, the successful candidate will work alongside our current Lower Elementary Guide, who will be retiring at the end of the year. The role may include teaching, co-teaching, assisting, lesson presentation, observation, record keeping, and classroom support. The successful candidate is expected to move into the lead Lower Elementary Guide role in September 2027.
Our Lower Elementary classroom serves children in Grades 1 to 3 within a mixed-age Montessori environment. We are looking for someone who is warm, experienced, organized, collaborative, and confident in classroom leadership.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Work collaboratively with the current Lower Elementary Guide during the transition year
- Support a smooth handover into the lead guide role for September 2027
- Prepare and maintain an authentic Montessori Lower Elementary environment
- Present lessons across the Montessori elementary curriculum
- Observe students and maintain accurate records
- Support individualized learning, independence, concentration, and responsibility
- Provide calm, consistent, and effective classroom management
- Establish clear expectations and maintain a respectful classroom culture
- Support students with a range of strengths, needs, and learning styles
- Communicate professionally with parents
- Collaborate with staff and administration
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Montessori Lower Elementary certification from an AMI, AMS, MACTE-accredited, or equivalent recognized training program
- Experience working in a Montessori Lower Elementary classroom
- A university degree in education or a related field
- Strong classroom management skills
- A strong understanding of Montessori philosophy, elementary curriculum, and child development
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- The ability to work collaboratively within a teaching team
- A current Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to obtain one
- First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification before beginning employment
Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of three years of Montessori Lower Elementary classroom experience.
Ontario College of Teachers certification is considered an asset.

Compensation
Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. Pay will depend on the balance between teaching and assisting.
Expected salary range to start: $35,000 to $40,000 per year.
