Full job description

Do you have a passion for supporting adults with diverse abilities? In this role, you’ll help residents live fulfilling, independent lives in a supportive home environment.
What You’ll Do: • Assist with daily personal and palliative care.

Plan activities that promote independence and community connections.
Prepare healthy meals and manage household chores.
Administer medication and support healthcare needs.
Help residents advocate for themselves and connect with social workers, family, and community resources.
Teach life skills like budgeting, relationship-building, and healthy choices.
Provide transportation to medical appointments, family visits, and recreational outings.
Manage household budgets and maintain accurate documentation.
Respond to emergencies and ensure a safe environment for all.

What You Bring

Community and School Support Worker, Resident Care Aide, or Home Support Worker Certificate
One (1) year of recent related experience working with seniors with developmental diverse abilities
Or a combination of education, training, and experience.

Other Musts

Valid BC Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License

(Or ability to obtain within probation – reimbursement available) + safe driving record

Safe Driving Record & Reliable Vehicle
TB Test (clear of tuberculosis)
Criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
Unionized position with a 1.85% union dues deduction
Physical abilities to provide individuals with personal care and recreational activities indoors and outdoors. Including supporting individuals in wheelchairs, and walkers, carrying, lifting, transferring, pushing, pulling, bending, assisting clients safely in and out of bed, and bath, and using lifts, and other health equipment appropriately.
The following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: First Aid, Mandt, SafeTalk, Medication Management, Privacy and Information Sharing, WHMIS, Safe Food Handling, Abuse and Neglect Awareness training, Anti-Bullying and Harassment.

PPROGRAM: Desmond House
LOCATION: Kamloops, BC
STATUS: Full-Time
HOURS of WORK: 37.4 hours per week on average

SCHEDULE:
Position 1: 4 days on 2 days off rotation - 7am to 3pm & 8am to 4pm
Position 2: 4 days on 2 days off rotation - 8am to 4pm
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator, Desmond House
COMPENSATION: $25.95 - $29.76 per hour (Grid 10 as per collective agreement; compensation subject to recently ratified wage increases not yet implemented)
