Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Technician to join our team in and around Campbell River. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure construction, installation, and repair. This position involves a combination of fieldwork, customer interactions, and technical expertise to ensure the deployment and maintenance of our fiber-optic network.
Principle Accountabilities
- Install, maintain, and repair FTTH services, including residential and business fiber drops.
- Perform aerial and underground fiber optic cable installation, including lashing and jetting cable underground.
- Splice and terminate fiber optic cables, including fusion splicing (e.g., 144-fiber, 48-to-48 splicing).
- Work with various fiber enclosure types, including handholes, pedestals, and cabinets.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose fiber optic issues using OTDRs, power meters, and other test equipment.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices.
- Collaborate with team members, project managers, and network engineers to meet service deployment goals.
- Interact with customers professionally and courteously during installations and service calls.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reports related to fiber installations and repairs.
- Must be willing to travel to surrounding and outlying areas up to 75% of the time
Required Education
Qualifications:
- Experience in fiber optic installation, repair, and maintenance.
- Experience operating bucket trucks, fiber jetting machines, and other construction tools is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 75 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Industry certifications such as FOA CFOT, ETA FOI, or equivalent are a plus.
- Knowledge of local permitting and right-of-way regulations.
- Familiarity with FTTH construction, including lashing, jetting, and running aerial and underground drops.
- Proficiency in fusion splicing and working with fiber distribution panels.
- Ability to read and interpret fiber network diagrams and construction plans.
