Interior Health is seeking a Quality Review Coordinator who is passionate about quality, safety, and continuous improvement to help ensure residents receive the highest standard of care. Supporting long-term care services across the Okanagan region, this term-specific, full-time position will play a key role in advancing quality initiatives, enhancing resident outcomes, and promoting a culture of excellence. This opportunity is available until March 31, 2028, or until the return of the incumbent.

The salary range for this position is $90,770 (min) to $113,462 (midpoint) to $130,48 (max) per annum, based on 1.0 FTE. Interior Health typically establishes salaries within the minimum and midpoint of the salary range based on qualifications, experience of the applicant, and an internal equity review of the salaries of other employees.

How will you create an impact:
The Quality Review Coordinator provides leadership and expertise in the assessment and review of risk and quality of resident care and in the application of quality improvement and change management principles and practices. The Coordinator monitors and analyzes such data and information as complaints, licensing incidents and reports, PSLS reports, infection control audits, safe patient handling audits, semi-annual and as requested staffing reports, inter Rai data, and client satisfaction and Ministry performance data in order to assess quality of care and performance. The Coordinator develops and maintains strong communications with IH site managers and contracted partners; schedules, organizes, and leads the quality review process for long-term care facilities, both IH owned/operated and contracted partner long-term care facilities. The Coordinator works with the members of the Long-term Care Clinical Operations team and the Long-term Care Services team and in collaboration with the IH Quality and patient safety teams in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of improvement initiatives focusing on quality of care, service utilization, safety, and risk reduction.

The Quality Review Coordinator may also participate with the Patient Safety Investigators in the reviews of critical incidents and in the development of recommendations arising out of critical incident investigation.

What will you work on:

Provides leadership and expertise to promote a culture of safety within IH.

Develops and maintains excellence in quality care by providing unique expertise and leadership in the investigation and analysis of serious adverse events.

Builds, leads, and effectively facilitates multidisciplinary Critical Incident Investigation and Quality Review teams following serious adverse events.

Develops and follows processes to ensure involvement of patients and family members in the patient safety investigation and quality review process.

Provides consultation, support, and assistance to operational and medical staff throughout the disclosure process after adverse events as needed.

Provides consultation, coaching, and training for leaders, medical staff, and employees regarding Quality Reviews, patient safety investigations, and complaint management.

Ensures documentation and reporting are completed in accordance with the PCQRBA and IH policy and standards and in keeping with privacy, confidentiality, and health care evidence legislation.

Conducts investigations into adverse events, concerns, or issues by gathering information; interviewing witnesses, experts, and patient/family members; and contacting applicable internal partners and external agencies as required. Prepares reports and presents to leaders and committees as required.

Facilitates the development of recommendations and actions related to patient safety and resolution of concerns where applicable, tracking implementation through to completion.

Builds coalitions and liaises with IH leaders, medical staff, network leaders and employees as well as external agencies such as licensing bodies, professional associations, provincial government, RCMP, the Coroner’s Office, the Ombudsperson’s Office, and others regarding patient safety investigations and the management of concerns.

Works with Quality and Patient Safety staff to ensure issues of mutual concern are appropriately managed. Contributes to the development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of policies, procedures, accreditation standards and objectives associated with Quality and Patient Safety.

Effectively uses data to evaluate effectiveness of processes and for improvement relevant to patient safety and concerns management.

Supports and promotes the mission, philosophy, and strategic direction for IH associated with patient safety and patient/client relations.

In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.

Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in clinical discipline or health-related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Five to seven years of recent, related experience in a complex organization, including experience with quality improvement and/or patient safety preferably in a long-term care environment.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities

Effective written/verbal communication and presentation skills.
Ability to interact effectively with health providers at the community level.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and to work effectively in a complex, multi-faceted organization.
Knowledge of quality improvement principles and practices, organizational development, administration, and the current Health Authority service delivery issues and challenges.
Effective skills and abilities in leadership, planning, and program management
Ability to set priorities and provide analysis.
Ability to operate related equipment including proficiency in relevant computer applications.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Exceedingly flexible in where and when the work takes place and meet travel requirements of the role.
A valid BC Driver’s License.
