Job Description:
The General Farm Worker is responsible for supporting daily agricultural and packing operations, including planting, cultivating, harvesting, and handling fresh produce. This role involves picking, sorting, inspecting, and packing cherries and other crops in accordance with established quality and food safety standards.
This position requires working in both field and warehouse/packing environments, performing physically demanding and repetitive tasks in a fast-paced setting. The General Farm Worker must follow all safety procedures, maintain cleanliness of work areas, and meet production targets while ensuring product quality.
The role requires reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, with flexibility to work extended hours during peak agricultural seasons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plant, cultivate, irrigate, and harvest crops
- Operate basic farm equipment and tools as trained
- Load, unload, and transport agricultural products and materials
- Inspect fruit for defects and remove damaged or substandard products
- Label, box, and prepare products for storage and shipping
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, equipment, and facilities
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and quality control procedures
- Meet daily production targets and quality expectations
- Report equipment issues, hazards, or quality concerns to supervisors promptly
- Pick, sort, handle and pack fresh cherries and other produce according to established quality standards
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Employer
Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Good attention to detail and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable working in a cold production area
- Ability to lift and move boxes -up to 15 kg
- Basic understanding of workplace safety practices
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Reliable, punctual, and strong work ethic
- Flexible availability, including weekends and extended hours during peak season
- Previous picking and packing experience is an asset but not required
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in agricultural fields, orchards, and/or warehouse or packing facility environments
- Duties may be carried out in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain, as well as in refrigerated or cold storage areas
- The position requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, and performing repetitive manual tasks
- Employees must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 15 kg on a regular basis
- Work is fast-paced and may involve meeting strict production deadlines and quality standards
- Exposure to dust, pollen, and organic materials may occur
- Use of basic farm equipment and machinery is required, following proper training and safety procedures
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required and will be provided as applicable
- Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and extended hours during peak harvesting and packing seasons
- Strict adherence to workplace health and safety, food safety, and hygiene standards is required at all times
