Health & Exercise Sciences – Lecturer (1 Year)
The School of Health & Exercise Sciences (HES) at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for a 1-year full-time lecturer position in Health & Exercise Sciences with an expected start date of August 1, 2026, or mutually agreed time
Lecturer positions are appointments without review (i.e., non-tenure track) with the possibility of renewal for successive terms, subject to availability of funding and demonstration of teaching ability, in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.
We seek applicants with university teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful applicant must have a PhD in Health and Exercise Sciences (or related discipline) and at least 2 years experience teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level in the fields of social determinants of health, health program evaluation, human motor behaviour, lifespan physical and motor development, physical dimensions of aging and concussion. The candidate should have a proven record of teaching effectiveness across diverse course offerings at the university level. The successful candidate will be expected to teach existing courses within the undergraduate program. Teaching may consist of up to eight sections per year, with the possibility of one or two sections taught in the summer terms. The successful candidate will be expected to teach [first to fourth year course in the areas of in the fields of social determinants of health, health program evaluation, human motor behaviour, lifespan physical and motor development, physical dimensions of aging and concussion. Delivery modes are normally in-person. The candidate will also provide service to the School of Health and Exercise Sciences.

While this is primarily a teaching position, lecturers are also expected to participate fully in the affairs of their departments and may fulfill service obligations to the University and community, including regular attendance at meetings and participation in the activities of the program.

The School of Health and Exercise Sciences was launched in July 2011 and currently has 21 full-time faculty members, over 800 undergraduate students, and approximately 60 graduate students. The School offers an undergraduate degree in health and exercise sciences with four concentration options: kinesiology and allied health, clinical exercise physiology, and health behaviour change and and a combined concentration in kinesiology and allied health and health behaviour change. In addition, the School offers research-based Masters and PhD programs.
