Community Content Reporter – Video & Social
iNFOnews.ca | Thompson-Okanagan, BC
Full-Time, Permanent | $40,000–$50,000/year
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a field-based reporting position. If you're expecting to work from a desk, this isn't the job for you.
iNFOnews.ca is looking for an energetic, self-motivated Community Content Reporter to be our boots-on-the-ground presence across the Thompson-Okanagan. You'll attend community events, interview people, shoot video, write short-form stories, and publish content, all at the speed that digital news demands. You are the face of iNFOnews.ca in the community, and your work directly drives brand awareness and grows our newsletter subscriber base.
This is a news-driven role first. Speed, accuracy, and genuine community connection matter more than follower counts or filter aesthetics.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY BE DOING
The majority of your time will be spent out in the community, not at a computer. You'll identify and attend events across the Thompson-Okanagan, shoot short-form video content on location, and publish to iNFOnews.ca and our social platforms (TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook, YouTube Shorts) as close to real-time as possible. A story posted three days after an event has no value to us or our audience.
You'll also write accompanying community stories for iNFOnews.ca, grow our newsletter readership through your content and on-the-ground engagement, and use your own judgment to decide which events and stories are worth covering. You'll have real autonomy over your schedule and coverage choices, paired with real accountability for results.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- You're comfortable on camera and natural with people, not performative, just genuine.
- You understand news. Timeliness isn't a preference; it's the job.
- You can shoot, edit, and publish short-form video quickly and independently.
- You write clearly and can produce a publish-ready community story without heavy editing.
- You're organized enough to manage your own schedule and coverage calendar.
- You have a valid BC driver's licence and regularly drive throughout the region.
- You have your own reliable computer and camera setup capable of field production.
Assets (not required):
- Background in journalism, broadcast, or digital media
- Experience with Adobe Premiere or similar editing tools
- Familiarity with SEO and newsletter growth strategies
WHAT "SUCCESS" LOOKS LIKE
Within a few months, you should be a recognizable presence at local events. Attendees should know who you are. Your content should be live while events are still happening or within hours of them wrapping. Our newsletter subscriber numbers should be moving. Community members and organizations should be reaching out to you, not the other way around.
